Where do you read the newspaper? The Uvalde Leader-News is again accepting photo submissions from people reading the newspaper in far-flung or unique geographical locations. The newspaper first held the contest in 2013 and received dozens of entries, which appeared one at a time on the front page of each edition of the newspaper – for nearly one year.Simply e-mail, mail or bring your photos into us on or before Dec. 31, 2016, to be eligible for the contest. Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District received a ranking of “superior achievement” and a perfect score of 70 for managing the district’s finances. Trustees were given the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas, or FIRST, presentation by UCISD chief financial officer Becky Robinson on Oct. 21 at a special board meeting. The Texas Education Agency website states that “the purpose of the financial accountability rating system is to ensure that school districts...are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices and achieve improved performance in the management of their financial resources.
