Ralph Sanford Mitchell, 92, of Bandera and Uvalde died on Nov. 12, 2013, in San Antonio. He was born on July 20, 1921, in DeWitt, Ark., to Ollie Mae Mitchell and William Gibson Mitchell. Mitchell was a farmer and rancher in Uvalde County and the owner and operator of the Cabaret Dance Hall in Bandera since the 1950s. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was a Gold Card Member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and an inductee into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame, as well as the Bandera Music Hall of Fame. The family said Mitchell was affectionately called “Grand Pa.” He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and two sisters. He is survived by three sons, Ralph Mitchell Jr. and wife, Dawn, of Boerne, William “Bill” Mitchell of Uvalde and Carl Mitchell of Uvalde; two daughters, Margo Mitchell of San Antonio and Melinda Mitchell of Kerrville; four grandchildren, Brooke Compton and husband, Bradley, Jonathan Mitchell, Garrett Gonzales and Megan Gonzales; and many friends.
