Geronimo “ Jerry” Chavez, 89, of Uvalde died on Nov. 18, 2013, at his residence. A rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel. A funeral Mass will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Chavez was born on Jan. 5, 1924, in Albuquerque, N.M. to Cecilia Padilla Chavez and Manuel Chavez. He married Jane Merry on Feb. 20, 1960, in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. He is survived by his wife of 53 years; three daughters, Linda A. Chavez of Long Beach, Calif., Merry Chavez Anderson of Washington, D.C. and Sandra C. Bellew of Bethesda, Md.; one son, Luis C. Chavez of Uvalde; one sister, Nadine Bell of Mora, N.M.; one brother, Benny P. Chavez of Belen, N.M.; seven grandchildren, Gabriela Salcedo, Sofia Salcedo, Eric Anderson, Laura Anderson, Mark Anderson, Henry Bellew, and James Bellew; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Adolfo Chavez; and one sister, Kate Romero. Pallbearers will be Benny P.
