Furniture store collects nearly 3,000 cans of food

Where do you read the newspaper? The Uvalde Leader-News is again accepting photo submissions from people reading the newspaper in far-flung or unique geographical locations. The newspaper first held the contest in 2013 and received dozens of entries, which appeared one at a time on the front page of each edition of the newspaper – for nearly one year.Simply e-mail, mail or bring your photos into us on or before Dec. 31, 2016, to be eligible for the contest. Just shy of 3,000 canned goods were collected this year as part of the Texas Home Furnishings Trim-a-Tree canned food drive, and with a total of 1,253 cans under its tree, Anthon Elementary raised the most for the cause and has been named contest winner. Michael Swift, store manager, said that they are very pleased with the total can count and that the numbers are very similar to what they have collected in the past.
