Mauricio Daniel Sanchez Sr., 70, of Uvalde died on Jan. 11, 2014, at Methodist Texsan Hospital in San Antonio. A funeral Mass will be held today at 3 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. He was born on July 21, 1943, to Hortencia Munoz Sanchez and Mauricio Sanchez. He married Olga Ybarra in Uvalde on Feb. 16, 1960. He is survived by his wife of 53 years; one daughter, Olga Mae Sanchez and companion, Ben Vasquez, of Brackettville; three sons, Roy Sanchez and wife, Elma, of Sabinal, Roberto Sanchez and wife, Juanita, and Roland Sanchez and wife, Mikka, all of Uvalde; son-in-Christ, Craig Cox and wife, Tammy, of Lytle; two brothers, Arturo Sanchez of Rockwall and Ricardo Sanchez of Uvalde; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mauricio Daniel Sanchez Jr.; and one brother, Armando Sanchez. A rosary was recited yesterday at 7 p.m. at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel. Pallbearers will be Ricky Ruiz, Juan “Tatie” Hernandez, Gene Ayala, Joe Martinez, Carlos Guzman, Carlos Mata, Baldemar Esquivel and Alan Tinker. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Prado, Ruben Arredondo and Javier “Harvey” Rios.
