C. A. Buchanan Jr., 85, of Wyoming, formerly of Uvalde, died on Jan. 23, 2014, at the Western Heights Care Center in Lander, Wyo. Graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Uvalde Cemetery. He was born on Sept. 7, 1928, in Belton to Minnie Caldwell Buchanan and Charley Aaron Buchanan. Buchanan worked with Walter Heine in Uvalde drilling water wells and with his father clearing brush before beginning his 30-year career with Continental Oil Company. The family said Buchanan was a loving father and grandfather, who liked spending time with them. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and always took the time to teach his children and grandchildren those skills. The family said that he thoroughly enjoyed bargain hunting at garage sales and exploring. Buchanan and his wife, Leona, spent much of his retirement exploring the Oregon Trail. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Leona Ruth Jones Buchanan, in November, 2012; parents; one still-born child; one brother, R. A. Buchanan; two sisters, Dorothy Parker and Lola Carter; and one brother-in-law, J.B. Carter. He is survived by one daughter, Charlene Owen and husband, Curtis, of Riverton, Wyo.; two sons, Carlton Buchanan and wife, Cheryl, of Ballinger and Joe Buchanan and wife, Vicki, of Springdale, Ark.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Opal Fowler; and one brother, Loyd Buchanan and wife, Louise, of Uvalde.
