Jesse “Pat” Carvel LaMascus, 81, died on June 15, 2014, in Houston. He was born on July 18, 1932. LaMascus was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Alaska and worked for Phillips Petroleum for over 25 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Colleen LaMascus; and one son, Jay Kelly LaMascus. He is survived by one son, Douglas Scott LaMascus and wife, Theresa Wendy; one brother, Kenneth Ray LaMascus; three nephews, Steven LaMascus and wife, Candace, David LaMascus and wife, Becky, and Randy LaMascus and wife, Marsha, all of Uvalde; one niece, Lisa LaMascus; and numerous great-nephews and nieces. Rebecca Gonzales, 81, of Uvalde died on June 16, 2014, at Amistad Nursing Home. A prayer service will be held tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Templo Cristiano Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Guadalupe Galindo, 56, of Batesville died on June 11, 2014, at her residence. She was born on Jan. 1, 1958, in Uvalde to Teofila Alcada Galindo and Miguel Galindo. She is survived by two daughters, Jessica Galindo
and husband, Chico Delgado, of Andrews and Dayanita Torres and companion, Juan Grilmaldo, of Batesville; two sons, Mario Torres and Joe Ben Basan, both of Batesville; two sisters, Ofelia Galindo and Maria “Babo” Galindo, both of Batesville; three grandchildren, Yissella Delgado, Chico Delgado Jr. and Alexsa Delgado; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Juan Trevino; and one brother, Miguel Galindo Jr. A rosary was recited on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel. Funeral Mass was held yesterday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Batesville Interment followed in Batesville Cemetery.
Marvin George Verstuyft, 74, died on June 11, 2014, at his family farm in Knippa. Visitation will be held tomorrow at 5 p.m. with the recitation of a rosary at 7 p.m. at the Rushing-Estes- Knowles Chapel. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was born on March 24, 1940, in San Antonio to Irma Van Ovendenborger Verstuyft and George G. Verstuyft. Verstuyft grew up in San Antonio farming alongside his parents and brother. He started his education at St. John Berchmans Catholic School and completed high school at South San I.S.D. He was a founding member of the Belgium American Club of Texas.
