Alma Lara, 55, of La Pryor died on July 9, 2015 at the Methodist Texsan Hospital in San Antonio. She was born on Aug. 21, 1959 in Uvalde to Soveida (Perez) and Jose Gonzales. She married Francisco Lara on Nov. 17, 1984 in La Pryor. She is survived by her husband of 30 years; three daughters, Priscilla Garza and husband, Isidro, Soveida Portillo and husband, Michael, all of La Pryor, and Maricruz Martinez and husband, Lorenzo, of Uvalde; two sons, Jesus Victorino and wife, Lucy, of Uvalde and Jose Lara and wife, Tamecika, of La Pryor; one sister, Magdalena Martinez of La Pryor; two brothers, George Gonzales of La Pryor and Armando Gonzales of Michigan; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Manuela Ortiz and Corina Vera; and two brothers, Arnulfo Gonzales and Jose Elias Gonzales. Alejandro C. Gonzales Jr., 86, of Uvalde died on July 12, 2015 in San Antonio. He was born on May 17, 1929 to Maria (Carbajal) and Alejandro Gonzales Sr. He married Ofelia Aviles on July 15, 1951, in Uvalde. She preceded him in death in 2008. He is survived by two sons, Alejandro Gonzales III and wife, Sandra, of Uvalde, and Alfredo Gonzales and wife, Sulema, of Castroville; three sisters, Rosa Flores of Eagle Pass, Hortencia De Leon of Uvalde, and Sulema Hidalgo of Monahans; two brothers, Reyes Gonzales of South Carolina and Jose Maria Gonzales of Odessa; five grandchildren, Leslie Ann Luna, Javier Gonzales, Matthew Gonzales, Patrick Gonzales, and Ana Alicia Gonzales; and two great-grandchildren, Xandria and Sebastian Perez. Ramon T. Cano Jr., 73, of Uvalde died on July 9, 2015 at Amistad Nursing Home. He was born on Oct. 24, 1941 in Kosciusko to Narcissa (Trevino) and Ramon Cano Sr. He married Mona Salazar in Uvalde on July 26, 1986. Cano is survived by his wife; two daughters, Lorrie Ann Benavides and husband, Oscar Jr., of Castroville, Kimberly ‘’Kimi’’ R. Gutierrez and husband, Robert, of Uvalde; three sons, Tony Cano and wife, Stella, of Boerne, Ramon R. JoAnn Heflin of West Texas, formerly of Uvalde, died June 26, 2015 in New Braunfels. She was born on July 29, 1922 in Ozona to Mabel and Emmett Young. She was raised on ranches near Sheffield and Dryden. According to the family, she loved horses, outdoors, all animals, swimming, dancing, and was her dad’s right hand man in all aspects of ranching. Heflin graduated high school in Iraan. According to the family, she often told stories about the Great Depression and the drought. She married Dub Heflin when she was 18 years old. He died when she was 30, leaving her with two small boys to raise. She later married Marvin Heflin and moved to San Angelo. Together they had Jo Gayle and Greg Heflin. She resided in San Angelo until 1997 when she moved to Uvalde. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands: and one son, Steve Heflin.
Jose R. ‘’Rudy’’ Guerrero, 79, of Uvalde died on July 8, 2015 in San Antonio. He was born on June 23, 1936 in San Antonio. He is survived by four daughters, Janet Treviño and husband, Amos III, of Floresville; Anna Maria Chavez and husband, Arturo, of Uvalde; Norma D. Flores and husband, Ruben, of Lubbock; Ruby L. Paden and husband, Brian, of Lake Worth; one brother, Inez C. Cruz of San Antonio; seven grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Guerrero was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Ramon and Vicenta Guerrero, and his biological mother Ancencion Cabello. A rosary was recited Thursday at 7 p.m. at Rushing- Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers were Amos Trevino III, Michael Chavez, Raul Flores, John Otis Cruz, Samuel Samora, and Austin Paden.
Elpidio “Pio” Flores, 84, died July 8, 2015. He was born in Uvalde on March 4, 1931 to Esther (Perry) and Raymundo Flores. A rosary was recited yesterday at 7 p.m., and another rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Burial Mass will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with interment following at Hillcrest Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary (Maruca) Romo Flores; two daughters, Cynthia Jo Flores-Martinez and husband, Mike, and Sylvia Flores, all of San Antonio; three sons, Richard Flores and wife, Dolores, of Uvalde, George R. Flores and wife, Rachel, of Houston, Michael Flores and wife, Rosemary, of San Antonio; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Raymundo Flores of Alabama, Elias Flores of Amarillo, and Armando Flores of San Antonio; one sister, Delia lores Gonsalez of San Antonio; and many close friends and relatives.

Billie May Studer, 84, of Uvalde died on June 28, 2015, at the Uvalde Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Cremation was under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. She was born on Nov. 30, 1930, in Uvalde to Frances (Thornburg) and Charles L. Johnson. She married Rodney Studer on July 31, 1948, in Uvalde. He preceded her in death in 2003. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Studer and Terrie Swindall, both of Uvalde; one son, Bobby Studer and wife, Terry, of Uvalde; seven grandchildren, Robert Watson and wife, Siria, Taylor Watson Sr. and wife, Bethany, Reagan Dishman, Trey Pegues and wife, Lisa, Rhett Pegues and wife, Cindy, Stacy McMillian and husband, Mark, and Preston Studer; eight great-grandchildren, Rayleigh Watson, Taylor Watson Jr., Hayden Pegues, Whitlee Pegues, Campbell Pegues, Hatley Pegues, Brayson McMillian, and Rankin McMillian.
