Julia Vera, 72, of Uvalde died on April 21, 2016, at Amistad Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A viewing will be held tomorrow from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Uvalde Funeral Home. Mary Fisher Willis, 81, of Utopia died on April 18, 2016, in Boerne. A family interment will take place on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Jones Cemetery in Utopia, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Utopia United Methodist Church. She was born on Feb. 21, 1935, in Sabinal to June (Tucker) and Henry Fisher. She was the third child in the family. The family says that although she was a child of the Depression, Willis had a happy childhood and once described herself as an “ordinary girl born into the best family in the world.” She attended school in Utopia. She went to Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) for college. After graduation in 1958, she began teaching school in Corpus Christi. She married James E. Willis Jr. on June 10, 1961, in Corpus Christi. The couple eventually moved to San Antonio, where they raised their daughters. They were married for almost 55 years.
William Darrell Reagan, 58, of Knippa died on April 15, 2016, in Knippa. He was born on Feb. 19, 1958, in San Marcos to Karen (Jackson) and William Cecil Reagan Jr. He is survived by his father and wife, Ann, of Uvalde; mother, of Kerrville; two sons, William Todd Reagan and wife, Iona, of Utopia, and Benjamin Chad Reagan and wife, Alisha, of Medina; two daughters, Christine Lois Sundell and husband, Joel, of Missouri, and Sarah Reagan Bowling of Knippa; one sister, Sherry Castillo and husband, Ray, of Kerrville; companion, Lisa Lutz of Knippa; and 10 grandchildren, Joezlyn Reagan, Jazelle Reagan, Victoria Reagan, Akira Musquiz, Eric Musquiz, Madelyn Musquiz, Skye Bowling, Brody McKenzie, Gabriella Reagan, and Bently Sorrells. Cremation was under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Olga G. Moreno, 68, of Uvalde died on April 17, 2016, at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. A rosary was recited on Wednesday and will be recited again today at 7 p.m. at Rushing Estes Knowles Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. She was born on July 22, 1947, in Uvalde to Jesusita Reynosa and Willie R. Garcia. She is survived by two daughters, Monica Rodriguez and Connie Trevino; one son, Willie Moreno; and one sister, Dolores Garcia, all of Uvalde; two brothers, Richard Garcia of Arkansas, and Arnold Garcia of Uvalde; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Cruz ‘’Cano’’ Moreno; one son, Cano Moreno; and one brother, Gilbert Garcia. Pallbearers will be Roger Davila, David Trevino Jr., John Rodriguez, Cano Moreno, Matthew Moreno, and Willie Moreno Jr.
Elias Hernandez, 67, of Uvalde died on April 17, 2016, at the Concho County Hospital in Eden. He was born on Dec. 26, 1948, in Del Rio to Tomasa (Flores) and Willie Hernandez. He is survived by his wife, Graciela Hernandez of Uvalde; one son, Elias Hernandez Jr. and fiancée, Maria Gonzales, of Uvalde; one sister, Sulema Ruiz of Brady; one brother, Ricardo Hernandez of Brownwood: one grandchild, Isabel Gonzales; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was born on Oct. 4, 1950, in Corpus Christi to Marjorie (Hobbs) and William Ruark. The family says she was a devoted wife and loving mother; she loved all whom she met and never knew a stranger; and she will be missed by family and friends.
