Michael Arizmendi

Michael Arizmendi, 47, formerly of Uvalde, died in the early morning on July 16, 2015, at his residence in San Angelo. A funeral mass will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Arizmendi was born on Sept. 14, 1968, to Josie Perry Rodriguez in Uvalde. He is survived by his wife, Norma J. Espinoza of San Angelo; one daughter, Abby Arizmendi of San Angelo; one son, Joshua Arizmendi of San Angelo; one brother, Victor Samarron of Dallas; three sisters, Norma Samarron, Naida Arizmendi, and Letty Arizmendi, all of Uvalde; and numerous nieces and nephews, including one special nephew, Sergio “Bootleg” Espinoza. He was preceded in death by his mother, Josie Perry Rodriguez; grandmother, Irene Perry Rodriguez; grandfather, Rosalio Rodriguez; and one uncle, Manuel Gomez. According to the family, he was a beloved husband, phenomenal father, awesome brother, unforgettable uncle, amazing friend, and adored coworker.

Enriqueta D. Briseño

Enriqueta D. Briseño, 77, of Uvalde died on July 20, 2015, at Amistad Nursing Home. She was born on June 8, 1938, in Uvalde to Refugia (De La Cruz) and Isabel Briseño. She is survived by three sisters, Ernestina Garcia and husband, Richard, and Bertha Costilla and husband, Ismael, all of Uvalde, and Oralia Gutierrez of Lamont, California; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Carlos Briseño, Jose Briseño, and Isabel Briseño Jr.; and three sisters, Belia Briseño, Lydia Briseño, and Adelina Briseño. A rosary was recited yesterday at 7 p.m., followed by cremation under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

Edward Willets Cassin Jr.

Edward Willets Cassin Jr., 93, son of the late Edward Willets and Storrow Devine Smith Cassin, passed away July 19, 2015, on his ranch in Batesville. Graveside service will be held Friday, July 24, 2015, at 10 a.m. at the Cassin Ranch Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Louis Zbinden officiating. Cassin was born in San Antonio on Sept. 25, 1921. As a Boy Scout he earned every merit badge possible and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. His ranching career began at age 17 when he leased Hillingdon Ranch near Comfort, Texas. In 1943 he moved to the Cassin family ranch in Batesville, where he continued to pursue his love of ranching until his death. He had a deep respect for the land and for his heritage. He was a true gentleman. Ed was one of the last of a dying breed, the old-time cowboy. During his lifetime of ranching, he saw the many changes from transporting livestock on trains to using helicopters for round ups.

Elizabeth Hernandez Gonzalez

Elizabeth Hernandez Gonzalez, 88, of Uvalde died on July 16, 2015, in San Antonio, after a brief illness. She was born on Oct. 20, 1926, in Premont, to Guadalupe (Grimaldo) and Jose Angel Hernandez. She married Ricardo G. Gonzalez on Aug. 13, 1949, in Falfurrias. He preceded her in death in 1983. She is survived by one daughter, Diana Rodriguez and husband, William, of San Angelo; three sons, Robert Gonzalez of Carrollton, Joel Gonzalez of Austin, and Homer Gonzalez and wife, Esmeralda, of San Antonio; three sisters, Lydia Hernandez Tricky of Austin, Ester Wennerstrand of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin and Tavita Dorow of Lubbock; two brothers, Daniel Hernandez of Austin, and David Hernandez; and two grandsons, Sebastian (Will) Rodriquez and Konner Gonzalez. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Virginia Daniels. Services were held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Kenneth Ray Hagan

Kenneth Ray Hagan, 80, of Uvalde died on July 12, 2015, in San Antonio. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at noon at the Uvalde Country Club. He was born on Dec. 4, 1934, in Yoakum to Willie Mae (Kahanek) and Carl Otis Hagan. He is survived by two sons, Ryan Hagan and wife, Lara, of Seabrook, and Mike Hagan and wife, Mary, of Rico, Colorado; and three grandchildren, Noah, Lydia, and Ava Hagan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kate Marmion Regional Cancer Medical Center, P.O. Box 900, Uvalde, TX 78802.

Deanna Marie Hebert-Tankersley

Deanna Marie Hebert-Tankersley, age 75, passed away peacefully in her home in San Antonio, Texas on July 17, 2015. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m., on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Porter Loring Mortuary North. Services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Porter Loring North Chapel. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. She was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and moved toPort Arthur, Texas at an early age. Deanna married her  high school sweetheart, P.J. Hebert, and moved to Crystal City, a South Texas rural community, shortly after they were married. Deanna and P.J. moved to La Pryor in the early 1970s and raised four beautiful children: Denette, Ricky, Vicky and Terry. It was a big change from the city life in which they were accustomed. Deanna was known for her positive and upbeat attitude, and a smile always adorned her face. She befriended all who met her. Deanna had a big heart, infinite kindness and a benevolent spirit.

Mary H. Mills

Mary H. Mills, 49, of Uvalde died on July 16, 2015, in San Antonio. She was born on March 10, 1966, in Dimmitt to Cruz (Galindo) and Martin Vara Maldonado. She married Oliver Bryan Mills in Uvalde on April 18, 1992. She is survived by her husband of 23 years; three daughters, Pearl Adriana Maldonado of Uvalde, Lupe Salazar and husband, Javier, of Leakey, and Jody Mills-Woolverton of Mabank; two sons, Christopher Bryan Mills and wife, Monique, of Lubbock, and James Mills of Athens; three sisters, Margarita Ibarra, Delia Perez, and Patricia Maldonado, all of California; four grandchildren, Payton Oliver Maldonado, Jasmine Mills, Destine Mills, and Christopher Mills Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services were held on July 19 at 3 p.m. at Baptist Temple Church with the Rev. Tony Gruben officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Susan Charlene Wehmeyer

Susan Charlene Wehmeyer, 38, died on July 17, 2015, at the Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on Sept. 10, 1976, in Amarillo to Patty (Smart) and Charles Bishop. She graduated from Utopia High School in 1995 as salutatorian. During her high school career, she was active in sports and the University Interscholastic League. According to the family, she was a talented writer and creative artist, she loved working with children in need, and she was a very devoted wife and mother. She worked with Camp of the Hills in Marble Falls, Small Steps Nurturing Center in Houston, and counseled new mothers at Care Net Pregnancy Center of Central Texas. She married Dr. Van Alan Wehmeyer on Dec. 18, 1999, in College Station. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in 1999 and a master’s degree in public health from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical
