Fausto A. Flores, 81, of Uvalde died on Feb. 4, 2015, at University Hospital in San Antonio. A rosary was read Friday and yesterday and will be recited again today at 7 p.m. at the Rushing-Estes- Knowles Chapel. A funeral Mass will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. He was born on Nov. 28, 1933, in Uvalde to Margarita (Aguero) Flores and Fausto Flores. He married Josefina Lira in Uvalde. He is survived by three daughters, Odilia Rodriguez and husband, Armando, Rosemary Flores and husband, Alberto, all of Uvalde and Senovia Cuellar and husband, Roland, of San Antonio; five sons, Fausto Flores III and wife, Criselda, of Pearland, Daniel Flores and wife, Ida, of Alice, Israel Flores and wife, Maria, of Missouri City, Alejandro “Alex” Flores and Joe Flores and wife, Diana, all of Uvalde; one brother, Alfredo Flores of Houston; 25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Daria Saucedo, 86, of Uvalde died on Feb. 3, 2015, at Amistad Nursing Home. She was born on Jan. 31, 1929, to Candelaria (Diaz) Guerrero and Natividad Guerrero in Zaragoza, Coahuila, Mexico. She married Antonio B. Saucedo on Oct. 6, 1953, in Sabinas, Coahuila, Mexico. She is survived by one son, Juan Saucedo and wife, Dora, of Uvalde; two grandchildren, Tiffany Nicole Saucedo and Joshlynn Jeanette Saucedo, both of Uvalde; three brothers, Manuel Guerrero, Silverio Guerrero and Antonio Guerrero, all of Uvalde; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents;three sisters, Guadalupe Zavala, Natividad Reyna and Soledad Guerrero; and one brother, Francisco Guerrero. A rosary was recited Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Rushing- Estes-Knowles Chapel. Interment will follow at Panteon de San Fernando in Sabinas, Coahuila, Mexico.
Grady Douglas Roberds, 54, of Sabinal died Feb. 2, 2015, at his residence. He was born on April 4, 1960, in Lavaca, Arkansas, to Ida Luease (Harris) Roberds and Walter Roberds. He married Debbie Brasheares in Charleston, Arkansas, on Dec. 31, 1995. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Heather Flores and husband, Roland, Amber Roberds, and Jacklyn Roberds, all of Sabinal; five sisters, Dorothy Sisk of Sabinal, Carol Law and Phyllis Roberds of Charleston, Arkansas, Betty Atcison of Cold Pepper, Virginia, and Tonya Thompson of Livingston, Texas; one brother, Justin Parker of Barling, Arkansas; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Larry Roberds. A graveside service was held Feb. 4, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Sabinal Cemetery. Pallbearers were Sean Shelby, JD Sisk, Olin Moore, Roland Flores, Willis Reed and Debbie Roberds.
Jean Anne Beckett Ballard, 79, of Uvalde died on Jan. 28, 2015, at Methodist Texsan Heart Hospital in San Antonio. She was born on June 14, 1935, in Eston, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Laura (Seal) Beckett and Thomas Beckett.She married Robert “Bob” Ballard on Oct. 8, 1961, in Madison, Wisconsin. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, a resident of Uvalde; one son, Patrick Ballard of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one brother, Garth Beckett of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; two granddaughters; and two greatgrandsons. Demetria R. Contreras, 86, of Lubbock died on Jan. 26, 2015, in Lubbock. She was born on Aug. 13, 1928, in Knippa to Maria Rodriguez and Jose Rodriguez. She married Ramon Contreras on March 31, 1947, in Knippa. He died on Aug. 14, 2006. Contreras was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and she was a Cursillista. According to the family, Contreras enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting and dancing. She is survived by four daughters, Ramona Alonzo and husband, Domingo, Juanita C. Medellin, Maria C. Martinez and Gloria C Dominguez and husband, Bobby, all of Lubbock; four sons, Ramon Contreras Jr. and wife, Rachelle, of Houston, Armando Contreras and wife, Josie, Juan Contreras and wife, Mary, and Christopher Contreras, all of Lubbock; eight siblings, Pete Rodriguez, Henry Martinez, Juanita Rodriguez, Lupe Gonzales, Aurora Burrola, Estella Soria, Jesse Martinez, Robert Martinez; 22 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Amancia Sanchez Garza, 87, of Uvalde, formerly of Eagle Pass, died on Jan. 28, 2015, at Amistad Nursing Home. She is survived by one daughter, Carmen Graciela Rodriguez and husband, Joe, of Uvalde; four sons, Armando Garza Jr. of Austin, David Garza of Houston, Cesar Jesus Garza of San Diego, California and Jose Alfredo Garza of Austin; three sisters, Micaela Sanchez Velez of Austin, Antonia Sanchez of Eagle Pass and Maria Nieves Cardona of Albert Lea, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Armando Garza Sr.; and one son, Daniel Garza. Visitation was held on Jan. 30 from 2 to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the Yeager Barrera Funeral Home in Eagle Pass. Funeral services were held yesterday at noon at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Eagle Pass. Interment followed at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Cemetery in Eagle Pass.
Oct. 19, 1942 – Jan. 28, 2015 Fritz Henry Streib was born in Uvalde, Texas, to Fritz and Gilla Dee (Hoover) Streib on Oct. 19, 1942. He passed away in Uvalde, Texas, on Jan. 28, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Evelyn Streib Davenport. He is survived by his daughters and their families: Steve and Shawn Gray of Rio Frio, Texas, and their children, Jacy and Jake; Greg and Lisa Oden of Magnolia, Texas, and their children, Hayley and Erin. He is also survived by brothers, Willis Springfield and George Streib; and numerous nieces and nephews. Henry enjoyed an idyllic childhood, growing up in the Frio Canyon on the family ranch and often regaled his family with stories of the mischief and adventures he and his brothers experienced. He attended school in Leakey and Sabinal, graduating from Sabinal High School in 1961. He was a member of the Leakey Masonic Lodge AF & AM #622.
Rose Mary Brysch, 68, of Kingsville died on Jan. 27, 2015, in Kingsville. She was born on April 23, 1946, in Uvalde to Maria Ester Sanchez and Cosme Sanchez. Brysch was a retired certified nursing assistant. She is survived by her husband of 16 years, John M. Brysch of Kingsville; four sons, David Carrasco and wife, Martha, of San Antonio, Thomas Carrasco of Detroit, Michigan, James Carrasco of Detroit, Michigan, Manuel Carrasco of Detroit, Michigan and John Eric Brysch of San Antonio; four sisters, Olga Zamarripa of San Antonio, Gloria Leal of San Antonio, Janie Perez of San Antonio and Josie Sanchez of Pleasanton; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A cremation will follow with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
Alicia De Hoyos Arizmendi, 89, formerly of Uvalde, died on Jan. 25, 2015, in San Antonio. She was born on Feb. 23, 1925, in Uvalde to Tomasa (Talavera) De Hoyos and Crispin De Hoyos. She married Gilbert Arizmendi in Uvalde on Oct. 31, 1948. She is survived by one son, Gil Arizmendi and wife, Lottie, of San Antonio; one sister, Genoveva Morales of Uvalde; one brother, Crispin De Hoyos of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Laura Kingsley and husband, Cary, and Gil C. Arizmendi and wife, Dora; five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and three brothers, Rudy De Hoyos, Jose J. De Hoyos and Antonio De Hoyos. A rosary was recited on Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. at the Rushing- Estes-Knowles Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
