Alejandro Aguirre, 77, of Uvalde died on March 12, 2014 at Amistad Nursing Home in Uvalde. He was born on Feb. 6, 1937, in Uvalde to Maria Hernandez and Alejandro Aguirre Sr. He is survived by six brothers, Armando Aguirre Sr. of San Antonio, Samuel Castro Sr. and wife Enriqueta, Gilberto Castro Sr. and wife Diana, Silvestre Castro Sr., and Ernesto Castro Sr. all of Uvalde, and Frank Castro Sr. and wife Lupe of Roswell, N.M.; five sisters, Manuela Munoz of Sabinal, Rosalinda Alvarado, Maria Zamora and Janie Rubio, all of Uvalde, and Maria Elida Martinez of Brownfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Juanita Juarez and Anita Juarez. Interment was held yesterday at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Victor Olivarez, 51, of Uvalde died on March 1, 2014, at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sabinal. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Sabinal. He was born on Oct. 18, 1962, in Saginaw, Mich., to Maria and Ricardo Olivarez Jr. He is survived by one daughter, Victoria Olivarez of Uvalde; four sisters, Manda Olivarez Flores of Uvalde, Virginia Ramirez of San Antonio, Louanna Olivarez of Hondo and Alma Olivarez of Yancey; four brothers, Carlos Olivarez of Sabinal, Armando Olivarez of Ardmore, Okla., Genaro Olivarez of Uvalde and Ricardo Olivarez Jr. of Knippa; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Rudy Olivarez; and one sister, Benina Aviles.
John Marshalle Payne, 97, of Uvalde died on March 4, 2014, in Uvalde. He was born on July 8, 1917, in Brackettville to Myrtis Gordon Payne and Johnny Payne. He is survived by two daughters, Maria Payne Arellano of Uvalde and Gloria Julia de Rodriguez of Coahuila, Mexico; two sisters, Ninfa Payne of Kerrville and Beatriz Payne of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Gerardo P. Arellano of Uvalde, Meliton Rodriguez, Mayra Lorena Rodriguez and Nancy Elizabet Rodriguez, all of Coahuila, Mexico, and Gloria Berenice Rodriguez of Isla; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Matiana Payne; one brother, Fred Payne; and one grandson, Salvador Payne Arellano Jr. Graveside services were held yesterday at 10 a.m. at Villa de San Juan in Coahuila, Mexico. John Vernon Bunjes, 91, of Uvalde died on March 2, 2014, in Uvalde. He was born on May 4, 1922, in Houston to Verna Parks Bunjes and John Martin Bunjes. He is survived by one daughter, Janie Alderete and husband, Marcelino Jr., of Uvalde: one son, John Darrell Bunjes of Harlingen; eight grandchildren, Dustin Slubar, Marcelino Alderete, Josh Alderete, Erica Bunjes, Angelina Bunjes, Aaron Bunjes, Sarah Bunjes and Ashley Bunjes: great-grandchild, Grayson Slubar; additional great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Bryan Slubar. A graveside service was held yesterday at 10 a.m. at the Masonic Cemetery in Brackettville.
