Ann Marlene Hopperstead Noakes, 77, of Sinton died on April 13, 2015, in Sinton, following a long illness. She was born on June 29, 1937, in Princeton, Minnesota to Rose Amelia Hilken Hopperstead and Ingvald Johanne Hopperstead. Noakes was raised in Minnesota until age 8 when her family relocated to Sabinal during World War II. She graduated from Sabinal High School and was a twirler for the Sabinal Yellowjackets Band. After her marriage, Noakes lived for 50 plus years in Sinton as a housewife and mother. She was widowed in 1992 and – after her father’s death in the same year – was a caregiver for her mother until she died many years later. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Edmond Noakes III: parents; two brothers, Fredrick Alan Hopperstead and Conrad Orville Hopperstead; and one sister, Joan Bonita Clayton.
Cynthia Jan Ingram Wardlaw of Uvalde, born June 17, 1943, passed away April 19, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Opal and Flavil Ingram; her first husband, Ralph H. Harris III; her second husband, Louis J Wardlaw II; grandson, Ralph H. Harris IV; and granddaughter, Rebecca Gwin Vink. She was born in Del Rio, Texas, and spent her early childhood in Crystal City, Texas. She grew up withthree siblings whom she adored, Kay Shelton of Boerne, Texas, Mike Ingram of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Rick Ingram of Medina, Texas. She graduated from Uvalde High School in 1961.She married Ralph Harris III on June, 10, 1962. She and Ralph had three children: Randy Harris of Magnolia, Texas, Cindy Harris of Sabinal, Texas, and Marcy Kay Harris of Houston. After the death of her first husband, she married Louis J. Wardlaw on May 30, 1972. She and Louis had one son, Sutton W. Wardlaw of Uvalde, Texas.
Dorothy Lou Isbell, 93, of Uvalde passed away on April 17, 2015 at Amistad Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 21 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Uvalde with burial to follow in Uvalde Cemetery. Rev. Tim Fahrenthold will officiate. She was born on March 9, 1922 in San Angelo to John Luther Gurley and Ella Bailey Gurley. She married James Wilbur Isbell on April 2, 1941 in Mertzon. He preceded her in death in 2002.
Isabel A. Puente, 105, of Sabinal died on April 15, 2015 at her residence. A rosary was held yesterday at 7 p.m. and will be held again today at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes- Knowles Mortuary in Sabinal. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sabinal with burial to follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery. She was born on August 13, 1909 in Utopia to Juanita (Barboza) and Demetrio and Amaya. She married Juan Puente on August 12, 1933 in Utopia. She is survived by two daughters, Alicia Robinson of St. Charles, Illinois and Maria Holmes of Sabinal; two sons, Jesus Puente and wife Frances of Uvalde and Jose Puente and wife Janice of San Antonio; one sister, Dominga Benitez of Livermore, California; one brother, Jose Amaya of Sabinal; eighteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, twelve great-great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Henry Allan Edwards Sr. of Camp Wood died on April 10, 2015, at Kindred Hospital in San Antonio. He was born in Salem, Illinois on Sept. 2, 1937, to Margie Brimberry Edwards and Thomas Allon Edwards. He is survived by his wife, Alvis Ann Stillwell Edwards of Camp Wood; two sons, Henry Allan Edwards Jr. of Evansville, Indiana and Thomas A.
Julian F. Lopez, 89, of Uvalde died on April 13, 2015 at Amistad Nursing Home. He was born on June 5, 1925 in Uvalde to Anita (Flores) Lopez and Julian H. Lopez. He is survived by two sisters, Modesta L. Valenzuela and Santos L. Villarreal of Uvalde; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son,
Amelia Jacques Gonzales, 82, of Sabinal died on April 8, 2015, at Vitas Hospice in San Antonio. She was born on April 18, 1932, in Ballinger to Maria de la Luz (Gomez) Jacques and Saturdino Jacques. She married Ramon Gonzales on Nov. 15, 1955, in Plainview. She is survived by six daughters, Rosalinda Gonzales of Uvalde, Mary Lou Valdez and husband, Paul, of Newbury Park, California, Gloria Urrita and husband, Carlos, of Del Rio, Sonia Arteaga and husband, Leo, of Odessa, Angie Gonzales and companion, Raymond Williams, of San Antonio and Marisa Gonzales and fiancé, Krist Alaniz, of Uvalde; five sons, Manuel Jacques of Petersburg, Freddie Gonzales and wife, Rosie, of Uvalde, Ramon Gonzales Jr.
Rosalie Joy (Ketchum) Sutherland, age 89, died April 1, 2015. She was a member of our country’s Greatest Generation – and pretty great on her own, too. The eldest child of Eugene and Winifred (Lewis) Ketchum, Rosalie was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Sioux City, Iowa, and grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Kansas City, Missouri, before moving with her family to Freeport, Texas, in 1944. There she met her husband-to-be, Sam Sutherland Jr. They married in 1948 after his return from the Navy and her graduation with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa. She continued working at Dow Chemical until the irth of Sam III in 1951 – followed by Laura in 1953 and Dan in 1960 – led to a new career as mother and artist in residence. As a den mother, troop leader, and active supporter of Boy Scout and Girl Scout activities she helped her hildren and many others grow while having fun.
