Where do you read the newspaper? The Uvalde Leader-News is again accepting photo submissions from people reading the newspaper in far-flung or unique geographical locations. The newspaper first held the contest in 2013 and received dozens of entries, which appeared one at a time on the front page of each edition of the newspaper – for nearly one year.Simply e-mail, mail or bring your photos into us on or before Dec. 31, 2016, to be eligible for the contest. John Marshalle Payne, 97, of Uvalde died on March 4, 2014, in Uvalde. He was born on July 8, 1917, in Brackettville to Myrtis Gordon Payne and Johnny Payne. He is survived by two daughters, Maria Payne Arellano of Uvalde and Gloria Julia de Rodriguez of Coahuila, Mexico; two sisters, Ninfa Payne of Kerrville and Beatriz Payne of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Gerardo P. Arellano of Uvalde, Meliton Rodriguez, Mayra Lorena Rodriguez and Nancy Elizabet Rodriguez, all of Coahuila, Mexico, and Gloria Berenice Rodriguez of Isla; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Matiana Payne; one brother, Fred Payne; and one grandson, Salvador Payne Arellano Jr. Graveside services were held yesterday at 10 a.m. at Villa de San Juan in Coahuila, Mexico.
