Where do you read the newspaper? The Uvalde Leader-News is again accepting photo submissions from people reading the newspaper in far-flung or unique geographical locations. The newspaper first held the contest in 2013 and received dozens of entries, which appeared one at a time on the front page of each edition of the newspaper – for nearly one year.Simply e-mail, mail or bring your photos into us on or before Dec. 31, 2016, to be eligible for the contest. Juanita R. Melendrez, 99, of La Pryor died on April 6, 2014, at Amistad Nursing Home. A funeral Mass will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in La Pryor. Interment will follow in La Pryor Cemetery. She was born on March 3, 1915, in Eagle Pass to Isidra Ortegon Ruiz and Felipe Ruiz. She is survived by five daughters, Guadalupe Vera and husband, Santos, Olga Melendrez and Carolina Mata, all of La Pryor, Maria Elena Luna and Dora Salazar, both of San Antonio; three sons, Ernesto Melendrez and wife, Linda, of Delta, Ohio, Florencio Melendrez Jr. and wife, Savina, and Martin Melendrez and wife, Lisa, all of La Pryor; 35 grandchildren; 91 great- grandchildren; 109 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgreat- grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Florencio Melendrez Sr.; one sister, Maria Perez; one son, Arnulfo Melendrez; one daughter, Carolina Melendrez; one brother, Felipe Ruiz Jr.; four grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A rosary was recited Tuesday and a vigil was held yesterday at 7 p.m. at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel.
