Minerva Garcia Torres, 85, of Uvalde died on July 7, 2014, at her residence. A funeral Mass will be held today at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. She was born on July 16, 1928, in Devine to Maria Guajardo Garcia and Eliseo Garcia. She is survived by one daughter, Maria Lugo and husband, Lee Lugo Sr.; one son, Abelardo Castillo; two sisters, Elva Ibarra and Edna Hernandez; one brother, Willie Garcia Sr.; seven grandchildren, Orlando Castillo and wife, Spring, Lee Wick and husband, Michael, Rolando Castillo and wife, Amy, Marisa Castillo, Venisa Desnoyers and husband, Andre, Marisela Lugo and Abelardo “Lalito” Castillo; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leocadio Torres; two brothers, Ben Garcia and Esequiel Garcia; one sister, Susana Enriquez; and one grandson, Eleazar “Lee” Lugo Jr. A rosary was recited Tuesday and a vigil was held yesterday at 7 p.m. at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel. Pallbearers will be Joe Gonzales, Jessie Esquivel, Michael Hernandez, Joe Ibarra Jr., Willie Garcia Jr. and Eloy Garcia.
