Mary Sue Pannell
Mary Sue Pannell, 73, of Boerne died on June 24, 2014, at her residence. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 15, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Boerne. She was born on Oct. 16, 1940, in Corpus Christi to Jewel and Earl Kimmey. Pannell graduated from Aransas Pass High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Texas A&I University, master’s degree from University of North Texas and later went on to earn a PhD from Texas A&M University. She met her husband of 50 years, Bob Pannell, while teaching at Victoria High School. They later moved to Alpine, where she was a teacher and administrator at Sul Ross State University for 20 years before finishing her career as director of teacher education at Sul Ross State University – Rio Grande College in Uvalde. Pannell retired in 2003 after 40 years of dedicated service and lifelong commitment to the field of education. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, resident of Boerne; two daughters, Monica L. Burkholder and husband, Steve, and Angie Villarreal and husband, Thomas Lee, all of San Antonio; and five grandchildren, Scott and Katie Villarreal and Taylor, Sarah and Shannon Bowden, all of San Antonio. The family requests memorials be made to the River City Hospice, 158 State Highway 16, Bandera, TX 78003.
