Joyce Lee Neill Shepperd Weir went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 27, 2014. Joyce was born on Feb. 20, 1930 in Columbus, Texas to Andrew Lee and Dora Mae (Kennedy) Neill. Joyce grew up in Blewett, Texas at the White’s Mines. Joyce and her siblings Margie, Melvin, Don and Warren created many wonderful memories there. Joyce will always be remembered for her love of life, adventurous spirit and her beautiful blue eyes twinkled with mischief. Joyce married Bob Shepperd March 11, 1951. Together they grew their business Shepperd’s Dept. Store in Uvalde. They had three children. While living in Uvalde, Joyce volunteered for the Uvalde County Health Dept., Hospital Auxiliary, PTA, and was a Cub Scout leader. She also was involved with the children and youth groups at the Methodist Church and the Baptist Temple Church. Joyce married Bob Weir on Nov. 14, 1981. Her favorite pastime was dancing, fishing and traveling throughout the United States finally settling down in Ingram. Joyce also enjoyed traveling through Mexico with Bob, sister Margie and her buddies Mary Harpole, Virginia Grillo and Lee Smyth. Joyce leaves behind her children, Beverley/Tony Zummo-Missouri City, Bobby Shepperd-Boise, Idaho and Jan/Mike Meadow-Kerrville; grandsons, John and Kevin Geeslin-Lubbock; granddaughters, Gina/Scott Payne, children Jace and Alexa-Houston, Ashley/Regis Devonish and Dominick-Houston; brother, Warren/ Arlia Faye Neill-Uvalde; sisters-in-law, Shirley Neill-Stockdale, Mary Neill-Abilene, Lavonne Coryell-Kerrville; many nieces and nephews; and long time friends, Virginia Grillo-Arlington and Lee Smyth-Uvalde. Matt Marsh will officiate the service at Grimes Funeral Chapels on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 10 a.m., with burial at the Center Point Cemetery. Family will receive visitors on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, 5-7 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels. Pallbearers are her nephews Steve Misthos, Don Neill, Rickey Neill, Robby Neill, Travis Neill and Hugh Murphy. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Oyster Creek Manor in Missouri City and the Amed Hospice staff for the special care they gave her.
