Alfredo A. Velos, 55, of San Antonio, formerly of Uvalde, died on July 10, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde. Graveside services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Uvalde Cemetery. He was born on Sept. 20 1958, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell, New Mexico, to Frances “Mamie” Alvarado and Alfredo Salcido Velos. Velos worked for the Uvalde Police Department as a dispatcher; Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Transportation as a school bus chauffeur; and a long haul truck driver. After high school Velos attended Texas State Technical College in Waco, receiving a degree in horticulture. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Gonzalo “Diddy” Uriegas; and one nephew, Mathew Velos. He is survived by three brothers, Raymond Joe Velos and wife, Irma, of Uvalde, Victor Alvarado Velos and wife, Rose, and Johnny Alvarado, all of San Antonio; two sisters, Diane Tafolla and husband, Frank, and Debbie Uriegas, all of San Antonio; and nine nieces and nephews, Raymond Velos of Uvalde, Victor Velos, Chris Velos, Jennifer Velos, Connie Velos, Christina Velos Ceron and husband, Carlos, Isaac Cevallos, Isabella Cevallos and Brianna Tafolla, all of San Antonio.
