'Polo' Cavazos Sr.

Hipolito “Polo” Salinas Cavazos Sr., 78, of Rocksprings died on Aug. 16, 2014, at Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville. He was born on Dec. 19, 1935, in Los Herreras, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Dora Salinas Cavazos and Nazario Cavazos. Cavazos was a retired ranch foreman, gas truck driver and mohair grader. The family said some of his many talents were gardening, deer processing, goat kidding, cooking and had a keen eye for a good horse. He is survived by his wife, Angelita Sanchez Cavazos of Rocksprings; one son, Polo Cavazos Jr. and wife, Irene, of Rocksprings; one step-daughter, Cristina Flores and husband, Enrique, of Carrollton; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Armandina Salinas of Kingsville and San-Juana Cantu and husband, Humberto, of Bustamante, Nuevo Leon, Mexico; one brother, Juventino Cavazos and wife, Mauricia, of Bustamante, Nuevo Leon, Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rita Cantu; and one brother, Arturo Cavazos. Recitation of the holy rosary was held Sunday and Monday at 7 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Chapel in Rocksprings. Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Rocksprings with the Rev. Sady Santana officiating. Interment followed in Rocksprings Cemetery. Pallbearers were Polo Cavazos III, Nazario Cavazos, Usbaldo Perez, Eduardo Magallon, Jimmy Perez, Michael Perez, Enrique Flores, Cuatro Rangel and Juvention E. Cavazos.
