Flood recovery guide: Where to find help in Uvalde County

Volunteer groups, churches, nonprofits and local agencies have mobilized across Uvalde County to help residents clean out homes, replace essential supplies, find temporary housing and begin the recovery process. The following organizations are offering assistance for flood-affected residents.

County and city extend local disaster declaration

The Uvalde County Commissioners Court extended the local disaster declaration for 30 days when they met at 3 p.m. July 21.

BARC distributing free pet supplies

FREE

The Briscoe Animal Resource Center, 1409 N. Camp St., is distributing free pet supplies to people affected by the recent flooding. Available donations include dog and cat food, plastic pet carriers, toys and treats, collars and leashes, bowls and blankets. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Temporary disaster tax exemption available for damaged properties

Property owners whose buildings were damaged in the July flooding may qualify for a temporary property tax exemption. Gov. Greg Abbott declared Uvalde County a disaster area July 14, making eligible property owners able to apply for the exemption through Oct. 27, 105 days after the disaster declaration. City offering roll-off containers July 21-22



On July 21 and July 22 at the Memorial Golf Course and behind the Dollar General on 311 E Antonio street, residents can drop off waste from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. At the sites, residents must show identification and cannot dispose of tires, batteries or oil according to a Facebook post from the city. The city previously offered containers at Morales Junior High and at the Civic Center on July 19 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
