Edwa ‘Sammie’ McCauley

Edwa C. “Sammie” McCauley, 95, of Sabinal died on Oct. 31, 2013, at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. She was born on Aug. 20, 1918, in Uvalde County to Nola Rogers Caddel and James Caddel. As a young girl, McCauley attended school at Bear Creek in Concan, the Trio School on Highway 127, and later graduated from Sabinal High School. She married Auther Carrol McCauley on Aug. 10, 1937. They were married for 66 years. McCauley was active in the local community, a member of the Sabinal Civic Club, the oldest member of the Sabinal Central Christian Church, and a charter member of the Smith-Caddel Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She is survived by two sons, Roger Jack McCauley and wife, Kay, of D’Hanis and Kenneth McCauley and wife, Sharon, of Sabinal; four grandchildren, Wade Carrol McCauley, Terry Roger McCauley and wife, Mindi, Marsha Lea Schoellman and husband, Jonathon, and John Roger McCauley and wife, Catherine; and and five great-grandchildren, Cody Carrol McCauley, Matthew James McCauley, Joaquin Wade McCauley, Kolbey Durham McCauley and Makenzie Kate McCauley. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Carrol Durham “Tink” McCauley; three brothers, Marnel Caddel, Jesse Granville Caddel and Earl U. Caddel; and one sister, Nola Berwin Caddel Nicholson. Graveside services were held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Sabinal Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Smith officiating.
