Adan A. Saldaña

Adan A. Saldaña, 87,of Brownsville died on Jan. 21, 2018, in Harlingen.

He was born to on Sept. 20, 1930, in San Benito to Adelaida (Alcocer) and Jose Saldaña.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August of 1948 and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean War Service Medal with two bronze stars.

The family says Saldaña was well known in the Brownsville community for careers in the insurance and real estate industries. He held professional licenses from the Texas Department of Insurance and the Texas Association of Realtors. The family says he was recognized for integrity, loyalty and achievement by the American National Insurance Company who selected him for the American National’s Presidents Club and Leading Producers Club.

Saldaña loved life and was an avid reader who cherished his family. He belonged to the Mary Mother of the Church parish and served as a member of hospitality at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. 

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Socorro Saldaña; four children, Belinda Salazar and husband, Crispin, Cynthia Lenz, Dianida Saldaña Contreras and Adam Saldaña, all of Brownsville; one son-in-law, Mark Spence, of Schultz; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Garza of Colorado and Ida Lopez of San Antonio; and one brother, Noe Saldaña of Uvalde.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter, Arcelia Spence.

A visitation was held on Friday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at the San Benito Funeral Home. 

A mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brownsville. Interment with military honors followed at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the San Benito Funeral Home.
