All-Star teams open district tourney play


Texas Little League District 21 tournament competition began last Thursday at Pleasanton.

Three Uvalde teams recorded a win in their tourney opener.

In softball action, the Uvalde 8- to 10-year-old All-Stars downed the Hondo All-Stars, 22-2, while the Uvalde Little League All-Stars topped the Hondo All-Stars, 11-1.

Uvalde’s Junior Division All-Stars trounced the Natalia, 35-4, in baseball.

The Uvalde 8- to 10-year-olds were to play Lytle yesterday afternoon, the Uvalde Little League girls were to face Pleasanton yesterday afternoon, while the Uvalde Junior boys were to take on Hondo in action last night.

Two Uvalde teams were to start tourney play Friday, while two teams were to get the tourney schedule yesterday.

Players on the Junior Division baseball team are Paul Fuentes, Memphis Gutierrez, Ryan Zamora, Diego Romero, Diego Villarreal, Jaad Aguilera, Joaquin Garcia, Joshua Ortegon, Martin Quijano, Derek De La Cruz, John “Mikey” Menchaca, Maverick Stevens, and Robert Ramos.

Jose Gutierrez is the manager, while coaches are Fili Reyna and Richard Villarreal.

The 8- to 10-year-old softball team includes Jayda Albarado, Layla Burns, Kadence Chapa, Esmeralda Fernandez, Unica Flores, Nayeli Garza, Adriana Hernandez, Aaliyah Morales, Khloe Morales, Aubree Rodriguez, Katrina Romero, Xanthe Villanueva, and Genesis Zamora.

Emelio Fernandez is the manager, while coaches are Ronald Rodriguez and David Zamora.

The Little League All-Stars include Marlehn Arellano, Isabella Ballesteros, Sophia Bustamante, Teresa Cabralez, Carli Fuentes, June Gutierrez, Lillian Moran, Jaylah Perales, Ailyn Ramos, Kurstin Ramon, Jocelynn Rodriguez, Elianna Salinas, Isabella Solis, and Taylor White.

James White is the manager, while Mario Guzman and Pedro Huizar are the coaches.

Friday, the Uvalde 8- to 10-year-old All-Stars were to open district baseball action against the Jourdanton All-Stars, and the Uvalde Little League All-Stars were to start district action against the Natala All-Stars.

Uvalde’s 8- to 10-year-old team Stars are Joaquin Bueno, Gavin Guerrero, Ronald Tres Korczynski, Blake Mason, Joaquin Guzman, Conner Sanchez, Carson Hernandez, John Treviño, Mathieu Moreno, Samuel Leija, Briggs Davenport, and Steven Mena, the manager is Steven Mena, while coaches are JD Mason and Lupe Leija.

Players on the Uvalde All-Stars team are Darian Aviles, Mason Gonzales, Jeffrey Parker, Ben Camacho, Izel Hernandez, Joshua Garcia, Jordan Chacon, Johnny Gonzales, Anthony Gatto, Bradlee Burns, Jeremiah Cardenas, Landon Jackson, and Evan Perez.

Jim Aviles is the manager, and Unberto Gonzalez and Krystafer Moreno are coaches.

Saturday, the Uvalde 9- to 11-year-old All-Stars were set to play Natalia in baseball, and the Uvalde Junior Division Stars were to play Pleasanton in their softball opener.

The Uvalde 9- to 11-year-old All-Stars are Jarren Maldonado, Weston Cantu, Joshua Perez, Deacon Havelka, Harrison Hill, Hector Luna, Elan Martinez, Devin Bustamante, David Sanchez, Kristopher Adair, and Colt Ayala.

Alonzo Sanchez is the manager, while Cole Hill and Sigifredo Sanchez are the coaches. 

The Uvalde Junior Division All-Stars are Isabella Bueno, Kenzie Cantu, Jazzlean Gomez, Sophia Longoria, Tatyanna Luna, Brinklee Mason, Amarii Pilgram, Nadiyah Ramos, Angel Rodriguez, Kyla Sanchez, Willa Suarez, Alicia Teague, and Alexis Welch.

JJ Suarez is manager, and Kelsey Ede and Juaquin Camacho are team coaches.

The Uvalde 9- to 11-year-old softball All-Stars will not begin tournament play until 6 p.m. Tuesday when they face Pearsall.

Uvalde All-Stars are Gabriella Jimenez, Gina Gatto, Alicianna Martinez, Callie Sanchez, Janelle Garcia, Aubrey Gomez, Atlee Korczynski, Maddison Reyna, Aleah Ruiz, Hannah Hughes, Karley Aguilera, Aliyah Hernandez, and Sierra Mena.

Juan Gomez is the manager, while coaches are Ceasar Jimenez and Matt Hughes.
