Amalia “Molly” Rodríguez Santos, 93, died on Nov. 6, 2019, in Angleton.

A funeral mass will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde, immediately followed by the interment of her ashes at Hillcrest Cemetery.

She was born on July 10, 1926, in Zaragoza, Coahuila, Mexico, and was the second child born to Dolores Garza and Nazario Rodriguez.

She attended school in Uvalde and in 1951 married John “Junior” Santos at Sacred Heart Catholic Church before moving to Stockton, California. Like many of her generation who headed west after World War II, she and her husband were searching for the American Dream.

Together they had three children, Alfredo, Molly Ann and Robert Thomas. After the untimely passing of her husband in 1958, she decided to move the entire family back to Texas the following year.

She remarried a few years later and then moved to the Chicago, Illinois, area where she gave birth to a fourth child, David Carlos. She then returned to Uvalde in 1964, where she had her last child, Dolores Carla. After divorcing her second husband, she chose to remain in Uvalde where she worked several jobs and enrolled at Southwest Texas Junior College.

After earning an associate degree in 1973, she moved to the Houston area where she attended the University of Houston and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1975 and became a certified Texas schoolteacher.

She taught in La Pryor, Seguin, and Angleton, retiring from teaching in 1991. By then, she was also a licensed real estate agent and the founder of a community-based newspaper called La Voz de Brazoria County.

Santos married Emerejildo Gallardo in 1994 and once again moved back to Uvalde. In 2003, they divorced, and she returned to Angleton and resumed her real estate career.

She led a full and vibrant life. She was able to travel with her family and was an integral part of their lives. It should be noted that she enjoyed a good party, but what she loved even more was for her family and friends to have a good time. Early family films from the 1950s and ’60s capture her and her friends celebrating not only holidays, but everything in between.

Santos is survived by her five children, Alfredo (Diana) Santos of Leander; Molly Ann (Gary) Buckley of Lawton, Oklahoma; Tommy (Nelly) Santos of Clear Lake; David Diaz (Blanca) of San Antonio; and Dolores (Stacey) Miller of Angleton; six grandchildren, Margaret Buckley-Ploof (Jeremie) of Lawton, Oklahoma; Yleana Santos of Leander; Catherine Buckley of Norman, Oklahoma; John Santos of Austin; Victoria Santos of Houston; and Madison Miller of Angleton; one great-grandchild Jaiden Ploof of Lawton, Oklahoma; and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dolores and Nazario Rodriguez of Uvalde, brother Juan Rodriguez of San Antonio, brother Rodrigo Rodriguez of Uvalde, and sister Elia Santos of Angleton. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

The preceding is a paid obituary
