Area football teams advance to the second round of playoffs


Four area high school football teams have advanced to the second round of the playoffs and will be in action tomorrow.

Those teams include La Pryor, Crystal City, Leakey and Nueces Canyon.

Last Friday, the La Pryor Bulldogs crushed the Bruni Badgers, 56-16, in Class 2A Division II football.

Tomorrow at noon, the Bulldogs, 9-2, will take on the Burton Bulldogs, 8-2, at Floresville.

The winner will face the winner of the game between the Granger Lions, 10-1, and the La Villa Cardinals, 7-4.

Crystal City’s Javelinas downed the Wimberley Texans in a 26-21 Class 4A Division II bi-district thriller last Friday.

The Javelinas, 8-3, will battle the Rockport-Fulton Pirates, 7-4, in an area game at San Antonio’s Alamo Stadium tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

Next week, the winner will face the winner of game between the Raymondville Bearkats, 10-1, and the Navarro Panthers, 8-2.

In Class 1A Six-Man Division I bi-district football action last Friday, the Leakey Eagles topped the Jonesboro Eagles, 66-30, while the Nueces Canyon Panthers bested the Evant Elks, 58-12.

At Fredericksburg tomorrow, the Panthers, 8-2, will battle the Gorman Panthers, 7-4, at 4 p.m., while the Eagles will face the May Tigers, 8-3, at 7 p.m.

The winners of those two football games will meet for the regional title next week.
