Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District officials are expected to hold the termination hearing for UCISD chief of police Pete Arredondo’s employment Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 5:30 p.m.

Arredondo held a central role in the May 24 law enforcement response at Robb Elementary School, where a mass shooting resulted in the death of 19 students and two teachers.

The meeting will be held in the board room of the Benson Educational Complex, 601 Dean St. The hearing will be conducted in open session.

Anne Marie Espinoza, executive director of marketing and communication  for UCISD said as of Aug. 17, the district does not have plans to move the meeting to a larger facility.

District officials announced the meeting Tuesday around noon. The announcement followed Monday’s board meeting, where they approved procedural rules and legal representation for the termination hearing requested by Arredondo’s attorney.

Arredondo, who was placed on administrative leave on June 22, was hired as chief in March of 2020. He joined the district from Laredo United Independent School District, where he served as captain.

His previous experience included serving in the Uvalde Police Department, where he advanced to the rank of assistant chief of police and the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.

Arredondo replaced Leo Flores, who resigned from his position in January of 2020 after leading the campus police force for less than two years.
