Cazares announces write-in candidacyFree Access

Javier Jacinto Cazares, a 43-year-old Uvalde resident who lost his daughter as a result of the May 24, 2022, mass shooting at Robb Elementary School, has filed as a write-in candidate for Pct. 2 Uvalde County Commissioner.

Cazares has been self-employed for a year, having opened Glasstech, an automotive/residential/commercial glass service company, after working for Glasco in Uvalde for 22 years.

He also helped establish a new chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) in Uvalde.

Cazares, a 1997 Uvalde High School graduate and former Batesville resident, has lived in Uvalde for 20 years.

“I want people to be held accountable and take responsibility for their actions,” said Cazares, who is seeking elected office for the first time. “I want to hear what the needs and concerns of the citizens of Uvalde are.”

He would like to call attention to the neglected neighborhood of Uvalde Estates, where he has resided for the past 10 years.

“I know it is going to be hard work. As an underdog, I have to say we fight the hardest fights, and we have the purest of hearts,” Cazares said.

In addition to 9-year-old Jacklyn J. “Jackie” Cazares, who died this year, Cazares and his wife, Gloria, have an adult son, Johnathan, and teenage daughter, Jazmin.

“I lost my daughter to a senseless act of gun violence at Robb Elementary on May 24,” Cazares said. “That really opened my eyes to a lot of things. I believe Uvalde needs change. We need change and we need it now.”

Cazares wants to remind Uvalde County voters that election day is Nov. 8, when polls across the county will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Early voting will take place weekdays from Monday, Oct. 24, through Friday, Nov. 4, with the location and schedule to be announced at a later date.

The last day for non-registered voters to register to vote in the Nov. 8 election is Tuesday, Oct. 11, the first business day after the federal Columbus Day holiday.
