Two of Uvalde High School’s 2023 football opponents will be under the direction of new head coaches.
At Poteet High School, Rudy Valerio is the new head football coach, while Matthew Hove is the new head coach at San Antonio John F. Kennedy High School.
Valerio replaces Darby House, who accepted the position of head football coach and athletic director at Class 5A Nacogdoches High School back in April.
He was named interim head football coach and athletic director upon House’s resignation.
On June 19, the Poteet ISD officially named Valerio as new head coach and athletic director.
Valerio served as the defensive coordinator during House’s five seasons at Poteet.
Last May, former Kennedy High School head football coach and athletic coordinator Ben Benavides accepted the position of Edgewood ISD athletic director.
Hove, a veteran of over 20 years of football coaching, was selected to replace Benavides
For the past three years, Hove has served as the linebackers coach on Coach Benavides’ football staff at Kennedy.
