Coyotes finish seventh in regional golf tournament


The Uvalde Coyotes finished seventh out of a field of 16 teams competing in the Class 4A Region IV golf tournament staged April 18 and 19 at Victoria’s The Club at Colony Creek golf course.

Coach Roy Torres’ Coyotes combined daily team rounds of 336 and 347 to finish with a two-day total of 711 for their seventh-place finish.

“The Coyotes had a very good first round and came back with another solid round of the second day,” said Coach Torres.

“After finishing ninth in the regional tournament last year, we moved up two notches in the regional standings,” said Torres. “Our goal coming into the tourney was to place higher and we accomplished our goal. We hope to move up a couple of more spots next season.”

Jack Brock carded a two-day total of 172. His rounds were 90 and 82.

Joseph Roswell totaled 173 for the tourney with his rounds of 84 and 89.

“Jack and Joseph had two good days of golf,” said Torres.

Ryder Torres finished with a 180 two-day total. Torres racked up rounds of 81 and 99.

Dylan Sieckenius posted a two-day total of 188, with rounds of 88 and 100.

“Ryder and Dylan both had good first-round scores,” said Torres.

Aiden Alcazar had rounds of 91 and 98 for his 189 total, while Miller Carnes, playing as a medalist entry posted a two-day total of 208.

Carnes had rounds of 101 and 107.

“Aiden and Miller played well on the first day,” said Torres.

“Our young team gained some valuable experience that should help carry us forward to next year,” said Coach Torres.

Kingsville and Fredericksburg finished regulation play with a team score of 635 to force a playoff for top honors. Kingsville won the playoff.

Boerne placed third with a 651 total, followed by Corpus Christi Calallen at 661, Devine at 680 and Pleasanton at 683.

Wimberley’s Jack Donaldson topped Comal Davenport’s Kyle Doolitte in a playoff for top individual honors. Both posted a two-day total of 148.

Donaldson shot a blistering 69 on the first day, but had a 79 on the second day.

Doolittle had two rounds of 74. Fredericksburg’s Sheperd Findley took third with his rounds of 74 and 75 for a 149 total.
