Coyotes to play Buffaloes at San Antonio

The Uvalde Coyotes will complete the pre-Christmas portion of their basketball schedule Tuesday when they face the Fox Tech Buffaloes at San Antonio. 

Tip-off time for the varsity game is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

Preceding that game will be a 10 a.m. freshman game and an 11 a.m. junior varsity game between the Coyotes and the Buffaloes.

Coach Alex Oyola’s Coyotes, 2-11 for the season, will go into the Fox Tech game following Friday night road action against the Pleasanton Eagles at Pleasanton.

Results from that game will be reported in next Thursday’s edition of the Uvalde Leader-News.

After Christmas, the varsity Coyotes will take part in the Wimberley HoopFest basketball tournament slated for Dec. 28-30.

Uvalde’s pool in the tourney will include the Lampasas Badgers and the Austin Northeast Raiders.

On Dec. 28, the Coyotes will play Lampasas at 1:30 p.m. and Austin Northeast at 4:30 p.m. Wimberley tournament action will continue through Dec. 30.

Other schools entered in the tournament are Stockdale, Canyon Lake, Luling, Georgetown East View, Boerne Geneva, Hondo, Great Hearts Northern Oaks, San Antonio Harmony, and tourney host Wimberley. To begin the new year, the Coyotes will be on the road to take on the Devine Warhorses on Jan. 4.

Varsity action will begin at 6:30 p.m., while the sub-varsity games are set for a 5 p.m. tip-off time.

The Coyotes will open District 30-4A competition at home on Jan. 14 when they host the Crystal City Javelinas in Harvey Kinchlow Gym.

Fox Tech’s Buffaloes will come into action Tuesday following weekend competition in the Kenedy tournament.

Prior to the tourney, the Buffs improved their season record to 7-10 with a 58-37 victory over the Randolph Ro-Hawks last Tuesday night.

Jaden DeLeon, a 6-foot junior guard, and Montrass Webster, a 5-foot-9 senior guard, led the scoring charge for the Buffaloes with 20 points and 16 points, respectively.

Other wins for Fox Tech this basketball season have come over Hondo, Canyon Lake, Poteet, San Antonio Kennedy, and Carrizo Springs.

Last Monday night at Boerne, the Coyotes lost a  63-31 decision against the Boerne Greyhounds, who are ranked 10th the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll for Class 4A boys basketball.

Joseph Flores racked up nine points to lead Uvalde’s scoring.

Others who contributed to the UHS total were Brian Reading with seven points, Daniel Perez with six points, Jarrett Hernandez with four points, and Jonathan Flores and Isaiah Rodriguez each with two points.

Devin Styles led Boerne with 24 points.
