Delta Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of Women Educators member Joy Jechow contributed this meeting recap.

Members of the Delta Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society of Women Educators met May 2 at El Progreso Memorial Library.

Member Jessyca Cazares announced Allison Goggans as the recipient of Delta Beta’s annual $1,000 scholarship for a young woman who will pursue a college degree in the field of education.

During her four years at Uvalde High School, Goggans was a varsity tennis player and recently competed at the regional level, placing third in mixed doubles.

Goggans has also been active in student council and robotics. She graduated 10th in the UHS class of 2024.

Goggans is an active member of Uvalde Methodist Church, where she serves as an acolyte and communion server, vacation Bible school assistant, and youth group member. She has traveled to Costa Rica twice to serve on summer mission trips with members of her church.

Goggans will attend Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene in the fall of 2024 and will play tennis for the university. She will major in exercise sports science, with the goal of teaching and coaching tennis at the high school level.

Also during the May 2 meeting, chapter members held a service of remembrance for the group’s president, Lena Jo Rodriguez, who died in March.

Joy Jechow gave the invocation, and the group shared a catered meal, with homemade dessert.
