Doroteo C. Flores

Doroteo Cruz “Shorty” Flores, 81, of Uvalde died on Dec. 2, 2022, at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. 

He was born on April 21, 1941, in Musquiz Coahuila, Mexico to Manuela (Cruz) and Manuel Zaragosa Flores.

The family said he loved football and baseball and was a loyal fan of Uvalde Coyotes. He enjoyed listening to music and dancing, but his favorite pastime was being with his family and having his grandchildren around him. They described him as a stranger to no one and a friend to all. 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bertha (Guajardo) Flores of Uvalde; four sons, Daniel Flores and Jesus Flores and wife, Cynthia, all of Uvalde, Ricardo Flores and wife, Esther, of San Antonio, and Federico Flores of Lawton, Oklahoma; three daughters, Martha Gonzales and husband, Francisco, of Uvalde, and Guadalupe Flores and Rosario Mendez and husband, Alfredo, all of San Antonio; brother, Manuel Flores of Uvalde; and sister, Maria Elena Hernandez of San Antonio; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, Oscar Flores and David Flores.

Visitation took place Dec. 6 at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary, where a rosary was recited. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.
