Evangelina V. Chapa

Evangelina Villarreal Chapa, 87, of Uvalde died on Oct. 17, 2023, at Amistad Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Uvalde. 

She was born on April 29, 1936, in Uvalde to Antonia (Villarreal) and Serapio Chapa.

She is survived by her brother, Lee Roy Chapa of Uvalde; eight nieces, Christine Chapa, Katherine Chapa and companion, Martin Hernandez, Cynthia Besares and husband, Roger, Armandina Herrera and husband, Edward, Enedina “Nani” Chapa, Enedina “Annie” Chapa, and Lidia Musquiz, all of Uvalde, and Lisa Garza and husband, Martin, of San Antonio; three nephews, Larry Chapa Sr. and Joe Chapa, both of Uvalde, and Richard Chapa of Leakey; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. 

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Diamantina Musquiz, Ermandina Carmona, and Enedina Perez; brother, Jose Jesus Chapa; three brothers-in-law, Leandro Musquiz, Joe Carmona, and Adolfo Perez; two sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Chapa and Mercedes O. Chapa; nephew, Lee Roy Chapa Jr.; and great-niece, Mary Alice Chapa.

Visitation was held on Oct. 24 from 3 to 9 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral service was held on Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary, and interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery. 

Pallbearers were Larry Chapa Sr., Richard Chapa, Marco Besares, Frank Lopez, Martin Garza and Elisha Diaz.
