The Uvalde Coyote football program has produced several college football players recently. Drew Kirkpatrick (Louisiana Tech), Migel Garcia (University of Maine), and Corbin Cargil (Colorado School of Mines) are preparing for the 2019 collegiate season.

All three athletes were coached by former Uvalde High School athletic director Gary Mac Griffin.

Kirkpatrick began his post-high school play at Blinn Junior College but is currently a red-shirt senior at Louisiana Tech in Ruston.

Garcia spent a couple of seasons at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California. He is beginning his second and senior year at the University of Maine in Orono.

Cargil is a red-shirt senior at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. This is one of the top engineering schools in the nation.

Drew Kirkpatrick

A three-year offensive line letterman for the Coyotes, Drew Kirkpatrick was a first team all-district selection in 2013 and 2014. He was a starter on a team that made three playoff appearances. He lettered in track and field also.

At Blinn, he was named second team all-conference in 2016 by the Southwest Junior College Football Conference. He helped the Blinn offense rack up 462.8 yards per game and 38.1 points per contest in 2016.

Kirkpatrick (6-3, 311) saw action in 11 games in 2018 for Louisiana Tech and his first appearance came against LSU on Sept. 22. His first start versus University of Alabama @ Birmingham came two week later. He made five starts including the Hula Bowl in Hawaii.

His current plan is to become a chiropractor, but the NFL draft could change those plans.

Kirkpatrick’s parents are Dee and Bunny Kirkpatrick of Uvalde.

Corbin Cargil

Red shirt senior Corbin Cargil is a safety for the Colorado School in Golden. He appeared in all 12 games for the Orediggers in 2018, had eight solo tackles against Colorado Mesa, and made stops in seven different games with two tackles.

Cargil and the Orediggers have won two Rocky Mountain Conference championships and made the NCAA playoffs twice.

Cargil (5-11, 180) was a three-year football letterman for the Coyotes, a two-time first team all-district selection, and earned Most Outstanding Safety in 2014. He helped the Coyotes gain three playoff berths.

Cargil lettered four years in track, one in baseball as well as cross-country and swimming. He was a two-time academic all-district and 2014 academic all-state honoree.

The son of Steve and Nancy Cargil of Uvalde, he is set to graduate with a mechanical engineering degree in December. Since he is a red shirt, he is planning to stay and continue his education and obtain a master’s degree in engineering technology management.

Cargil has also represented the football team on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee as well as serving on the Undergraduate Student Government and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Migel Garcia

Migel Garcia (6-4, 290) played in all 10 games in 2018 for the Maine Black Bears including nine starts in the offensive line.

Garcia had logged two seasons at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita after a stellar career at Uvalde High School. He was the starting left tackle for the Community College team that went 9-2 and averaged 37.8 points and 481.9 yards per game in 2017.

The Black Bears won the Colonial Athletic Association title last year with a 7-1 record and 10-4 overall. They expect to duplicate or exceed that this season.

Garcia is a sociology major with a minor in child development. His parents are Maria and Ricardo Garcia of Uvalde.
