Fourth of July golf scramble set this weekend

For the first time in the history of the Uvalde Fourth of July golf tournament, the format will be a scramble event.

Instead of being a three-day, match play tourney, this year’s tournament will be a two-day, three-man scramble event. The event is set for Saturday and Sunday at Uvalde Memorial Golf Course.

Format for the tournament is best ball.

Gross scores from both days of the tourney will be used. Prize money will be awarded to the winning teams, including $3,500 for first place, $2,000 for second place, $1,300 for third place, $675 for fourth place, and $525 for fifth place. This year’s tournament is being played in memory of long-time Uvalde golfer Larry Leach.

The tournament this weekend will mark the 74th time that the Fourth of July golf tournament has been conducted at Uvalde Memorial Golf Course. Tournament officials said that in light of the Robb Elementary tragedy, the tournament format was change to a team-themed event.

By making this change, they hope that all sponsorship and support will be focused on the needs of the community at this time.
