Glenn “Pete” Morris Young, 74, of Uvalde died on March 14, 2018, in Uvalde.

He was born on May 9, 1943, in Uvalde to Mabel Robertson and Felix Robert Young.

Young served in the U.S. Army. He loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren, and was proud of his military service. He retired from Uvalde Memorial Hospital after working there for 30 years.

Young is survived by his wife of 25 years, Alicia Hernandez of Uvalde; five  daughters, Linda Leija and husband, Ruben of Whitney, Norma De Lassus and husband, Jeremy, Connie Welch and husband, Joshua, and Mary Lara and husband, Samuel, all of Uvalde, Jessica Hernandez and companion, Roman Lopez, of Converse; two sisters, Shirley Y. Cummins of Kingsbury, and Nina Y. Willis of Duncanville; one poodle, AJ; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Katherine Y. Yarchuska and Mabel “Mitzi” Nixow; and three brothers; Bobby Earl Young, Charles Young and Martin Ray Young.

A visitation was held on Thursday and Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the chapel at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home, located at 424 Geraldine Street in Uvalde.

A prayer service was held on Friday at 7 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home.

A funeral service was held yesterday, also at the chapel at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery. The U.S. Army provided an honor guard to render military honors.     

Pallbearers were Ruben Leija Sr., Ruben Leija Jr., Jeremy De Lassus, Joshua Welch, Samuel Lara and Roman Lopez.
