On Feb. 7, I noticed horse riders crossing Center Street and I had to find out what was going on. The Heart of Texas Trail Ride Association has riders from Austin, Bandera, Floresville, La Vernia, and Sutherland Springs. They left Sabinal on Feb. 8, headed to Hondo, with the ultimate destination of San Antonio for the Stock Show and Rodeo.
I spoke with secretary Raynnie Lockaby of Floresville. Other officers are trail boss Don Malicant, vice president Terry Ford, and chaplain and sergeant at arms George Allen Adkins.
Raynnie explained that their president, Arthur “Pete” Young, died on Friday, Feb. 4, and this ride is being done in his honor.
This is the second time this group has held their trail ride.
Their queen is Naomie Bench, princess and honorary sweetheart of the Children’s Hospital Trail Ride is Brooke Lockaby. Aracelia Ferrerer is their little miss, and Queen B is Brandi Owen.
