Hill Country State Natural Area hosting lunar eclipse event


The Hill Country State Natural Area, which is located in Bandera about 10 miles from Tarpley, will host night sky enthusiasts for a total lunar eclipse viewing party tonight at 8:30 p.m.

Those interested should meet at the Chapa group camp area, about one mile south of the headquarters building. Parking will be available in the mowed portion of the field behind the barn.

Organizers say attendees may arrive and leave at any time during the program, but should note that  the partial eclipse begins at 9:27 p.m. with the total eclipse at 10:29 p.m. 

They recommend attendees bring a drinking water bottle, flashlights for walking, binoculars, a folding chair or blanket, and snack items are permitted.

The program is free with a day-use park entrance permit. Day-use entrance is $6 per person and free for visitors 12 and under.
