He was born on Feb. 8, 1925, to Cora Opal (Crane) and Andrew Jackson McClain.

He was a Utopia native who only left the canyon for World War II and for a career as a pilot, with his longest absence being his time as a pilot instructor for United Airlines in Colorado.

Jack and Inez spent 1966 through 1988 in Colorado, where Jack was both an instructor and line pilot for United Airlines. They could not wait to return to Sabinal Canyon where they built a home and spent retirement square dancing, playing 42 and driving their RV all around the United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother-in-law, Joseph Clyde McReynolds Jr.

He is survived by two daughters, Jackie Horton and husband, Sam, of Sabinal and Diane Messamore and husband, Ken, of Beulah, Colorado; two sons, Don McClain of Utopia and Robert McClain and wife, Sue, of Goldthwaithe; 10 grandchildren, Kelly Messamore and husband, Ralph Nolan, Kim Miles and husband, Mike, Kenny McClain, Lisa Keller and husband, Chris, Dax Biederman and wife, Jenn, Ross Horton, Linc Biederman and wife, Carianne, Barbara Horton and husband, Aaron Edwards, Bobbie Lee McClain, and Zack Hudick; nine great-grandchildren, Jeff Nolan, Peyton Miles, Taylor Biederman, Caden Keller, William Biederman, Trevor Horton, James Edwards, Olivia Biederman, and Coby Keller; sister-in-law, Lois McReynolds; niece, Valerie McReynolds; and three nephews, Greg McReynolds and wife, Kim, Tim McReynolds, and Chris McReynolds and wife, Francelia.
