James C. DCamp

James Charles DCamp, 64, of Dayton, formerly of Uvalde and Hondo, died on July 24, 2018, in Dayton.

A visitation will be held tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m,. followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m., both at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Hondo. Interment will follow at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.

He was born on July 7, 1954, at Great Lakes Naval Base, Great Lakes Illinois, to Ruth Joyce (MacDonald) and Charles B. DCamp.

He served in the U.S. Army and earned a master’s degree from Sam Houston State University.

He was a friendly man who loved having conversations with people. The family says he was devoted to his family, his country, and God, and he had a positive effect on the world and those around him. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served many callings during his lifetime.

His primary passion was music. He played the trombone throughout most of his life and loved performing and listening to music, especially jazz. He collected vinyl records. He taught music to thousands of school children in Texas and Iowa for more than 25 years.

His interests included baseball, basketball, genealogy, and taking family vacations.

DCamp was preceded in death by his mother; his brother, Douglas DCamp; and his wife, Karen Jean Wernette DCamp.

He is survived by his father; two sons, Byron DCamp and wife, Laura, of Dayton and Nathan Thomas DCamp and wife, Gina, of San Antonio; daughter, Jocelyn Kay DCamp of San Antonio; eight grandchildren;  brothers, David DCamp and wife, Sheila, of Cary Illinois, Richard DCamp and wife, Michelle, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Paul DCamp and wife, Deborah, of Riverdale, Iowa, and Jon DCamp and wife, Kristine, of Savage Minnesota; sister-in-law, Ronda DCamp of Moorhead Minnesota; and parents-in-law, Marian and Leonard G. Wernette  of Hondo.
