James L. Everett

James Levi Everett, 86, of Uvalde died on Dec. 3, 2023, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.

A memorial service will be held on Dec. 30 at 11 a.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

Everett was born on April 18, 1937, in Uvalde to Winnie Faye Miller and Oliver Floyd Everett.

He married Barbara Ann Shaw on Aug. 11, 1957, in Uvalde.

He graduated from Uvalde High School in 1957 and joined the Air Force in 1958, working as an aircraft mechanic.

Everett was a Vietnam War veteran and received a Meritorious Service Award. He retired at the rank of Master Sergeant after 20 years in the service.

He worked for the United States Postal Service for another 20 years where he retired. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Uvalde, American Legion, and Uvalde Bass Club.

He is survived by son, James Everett and partner, Samantha Adams, of Woodinville, Washington; daughter, Jean Ann Chisum and husband, Bubba, of Uvalde; two sisters, Maxine Scott and Nadine Welch, both of Uvalde; six grandchildren, Dalton Chisum and wife, Alysha, Abigail Chisum, and Recci Chisum, all of Uvalde, Erika Sather and Lance Sather, both of Washington, and Shelby Brennan and husband, Kyle, of Arizona; and six great-grandsons of whom he was very proud.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; sister Uvyonne Mason and husband Herbert; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Scott and Clyde Welch.

Pallbearers will be Shane Davenport, Dean Grasser, Randy Hicks, and Spencer Dubose. 

Honorary pallbearers will be James Mason, Dale Mason, Junior Mason, Kenny Mason, and Mike Mason.

Cremation is under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Briscoe Animal Resource Center of Uvalde or Flights to Furever, P.O Box 1650, Uvalde, TX 78802.
