
Jewell F. Garwood

Jewell Frances Kincaid Garwood, 88, passed on July 8, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas.
Jewell was born on Jan. 16, 1934, in San Antonio, Texas, to Frank Taylor Kincaid and Jewel Pink Armstrong Kincaid.
Jewell was preceded in death by both her parents; an infant sister, Cordelia Lee; her husband, Roy H. Garwood, Jr; and her son, Frank K. Garwood. Jewell is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Ann Kinzer; sons, Roy H. Garwood III and wife Cristy, Brian K. Garwood and wife Stella; two grandsons, Travis and Brandon; one granddaughter, Katherine; one great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Jewell grew up in Uvalde and attended school there most her life. She also attended Saint Mary’s Hall in middle school. Jewell went on to attend Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Southern Methodist University. While at SMU she met the love of her life, Roy H. Garwood Jr. Jewell and Roy raised their three sons in San Antonio until Roy’s passing in 1973.
Jewell spent much of her time managing her family’s ranch in Uvalde and Zavala Counties. She worked tirelessly to preserve the ranch’s legacy so that it could be passed on to her children. Jewell taught elementary school in Dallas and San Antonio. She also enjoyed her time as a real estate agent in San Antonio.
In Jewell’s younger years she was active in Saint Andrews United Methodist Church, Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, the Junior League of San Antonio, San Antonio Bureau of Tourism, Southwest Forum, Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, San Antonio Bar Auxiliary, Southwest Texas Cattlemen’s Association, San Antonio Board of Realtors Association, various state and local political campaigns, and the Witte Museum.
Jewell especially enjoyed her many years of playing cards with her Bridge group. They all became lifelong friends and she continued to play with them until 2021.

Graveside service: Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218.
