John McDonald

John McDonald, 78, of Uvalde, died on July 6, 2023, at Main Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.

He was born on Feb. 25, 1945, in Uvalde to Bessie (Perkins) and Francisco Olivarez

He married Irma Cruz on April 16, 1999, in Uvalde.

He is survived by his wife, of Uvalde; daughter, Leisl Bryant and husband, Bart, of Mount Vernon, New Hampshire; son, Jim McDonald and wife, Shelly, of Marshall; two step-daughters, Susie Arredondo and husband, Francisco Blanco, and Elsie Sanchez and husband, Jason, all of Uvalde; two step-sons, Rafael Vera III and companion, Belinda Guzman, and Johnny Joe Vera and wife, Michelle, of Uvalde; sister, Janie Olivarez; brother, Hector Olivarez and wife, Mary, all of Uvalde; three grandchildren, Hunter McDonald, Tristan McDonald and Tucker King; nine step-grandchildren, Orlando Garcia, Stefanie Garcia, Yzabella Sanchez, Klariza Sanchez, Alexis Vera, Desiree Vera, Monica Vera, Pete Arredondo II, and Adison Cruz, all of  Uvalde; and 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son, John Wesley McDonald; parents; and brother, Frank Olivarez.

Visitation was held July 11 beginning at noon and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on July 12 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, and interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Orlando Garcia, Johnny Joe Vera, Leonel Aguilar, Francisco Blanco, Alex Arredondo, Azriel Arredondo, John Anthony Olivarez, Hector Olivarez, Jim McDonald, Hunter McDonald and Pete Arredondo II.
