Juanita M. Amaya

Juanita Mendoza Amaya, 47, of Uvalde died on Feb. 25, 2024, at Northeast Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.

She was born on Sept. 19, 1976, in Uvalde to Eloisa (Rodriguez) and Francisco Mendoza.

She is survived by her mother, of Uvalde; husband, Oscar Amaya of Uvalde; two daughters, Madeline Mendoza and husband, Joe Ben Acosta, of Uvalde, and Samantha Pacheco and husband, Brandon, of Christine; son, Donavan Amaya of Uvalde; six sisters, Lavonne Rodriguez of California, Eloisa Mendoza and Adela Benavidez both of Uvalde, Mari Salinas, Carmen Medina, and Margie Jimenez all of Laredo; five brothers, Frank “Boogie” Mendoza of Jourdanton, Joe Mendoza of Universal City, Francisco “Panchito” Mendoza, Alberto Mendoza and Javier Mendoza all of Uvalde; five grandchildren, Cobin Acosta, Kolten Acosta, Avery Pacheco, Brady Pacheco, and Brandon Pacheco; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; and sister, Esperanza “Espi” Ortiz.

Visitation was held on Feb. 28 at 2 p.m., and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m., at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Feb. 29 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Donovan Amaya, Joe Ben Acosta, Joe Mendoza, Frank “Boogie” Mendoza, Raul Flores and Ryan Ortiz.

Honorary pallbearers were Rudy Ortiz Jr., Justin Mendoza, Matthew Mendoza, Andre Castillo, Austin Castillo, Alexzander Castillo, Jon Mendoza, Timothy Mendoza, and Dylan Salas.
