Judith W. Henderson

Mary Judith Wood Henderson, beloved wife of Thomas Briggs Henderson Jr. (deceased), died on July 4, 2017.

She was the mother of Mary Cornelia Henderson Gates (Edward) and Virginia Wood Henderson (deceased), and the sister of Joseph G. Wood, PhD (deceased) and Virginia Wood Davis of Uvalde.

Judy was born on Dec. 24, 1931, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Pearl Lee Harper and Harold Robert Wood.

Judy grew up in Raymondville and Uvalde, and spent much of her childhood at the Robstown farm of her grandparents, Clementine Pollard and Dempsey H. Harper. She was educated at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

Throughout her life, Judy maintained an intellectual curiosity, a generous nature, and an essential kindness. She was a strong woman who understood the importance of sharing ideas as a way of finding order in the universe. By avocation, Judy was a naturalist, a photographer, and a genealogist, and was active in numerous community groups and at church.

Judy was well-loved and a pleasure to be around, and her graciousness and engaging smile will be deeply missed by her extended family and her many friends. We are heartbroken by her passing.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Corpus Christi.

Please refrain from sending flowers, and instead, honor Judy with memorial gifts to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 700 S. Upper Broadway, Corpus Christi, TX 78401.

The preceding is a paid obituary.
