Little League All-Stars win district championship

The Uvalde All-Stars are the Little League District 21 baseball tournament champions. Uvalde’s 9- to 11-year-olds All-Star baseball team in the Texas Little League District 21 are tournament champions.

They captured the district championship with a 12-1 victory over the Pleasanton All-Stars last Saturday night at Pleasanton.

Blaze Cantu tripled in the third inning to highlight a three-run inning for the All-Stars.

Landon Jackson hit a double that came close to clearing the fence for a home run.

Pitcher Anthony Gatto and Jaad Aguilera saw time on the mound for the Uvalde All-Stars.

Prior to the win Saturday, the Uvalde All-Stars topped Pleasanton and Devine in two earlier tourney games. They won those games by 10 or more runs.

With the win, the Uvalde All-Stars earned a berth in the sectional tournament to be held in Uvalde, beginning on June 28.

The Uvalde All-Stars will face the winner of a game between the District 19 and District 4 champions. They will play on June 30.

The Uvalde 10-12 All-Star baseball team was scheduled to play the Jourdanton All-Stars for the District 21 title last night.

Results from that game were not available.

Tuesday night, the Uvaldeans downed the Jourdanton All-Stars in a 3-1 baseball thriller.

Down 1-0 early on, the Uvalde All-Stars rallied to score three runs, while they blanked the Jourdanton All-Stars the rest of the way.

John Menchaca executed a sacrifice bunt to drive in a run.

Jason Aguilera went five innings on the mound. He allowed only two hits. Memphis Gutierrez came in to pitch one inning in relief.

With the win Tuesday, the Uvalde All-Stars handed the Jourdanton All-Stars their first tournament loss.

The Uvalde All-Stars posted a 5-1 win over the Natalia All-Stars in an elimination game Monday.

Prior to the game Tuesday, the only loss suffered in the tournament was against Jourdanton.

Uvalde’s Junior Division All-Stars began their best-of-three games district championship playoff series against the Jourdanton All-Stars with a 7-4 win. Tuesday night, the Jourdanton All-Stars evened the series at 1-1 as they edged the Uvalde All-Stars 8-7. Last night, the two teams were to play for the district championship.

The Uvalde All-Stars are the District 21 Junior Division softball champions.

They claimed the district title by default as Uvalde fielded the only All-Star team in the district.

The Uvalde All-Stars will play in Section 3 softball tourney action on June 29.

The Uvalde girls will face the District 35 champions in a 6 p.m. contest at San Antonio.

District 35 includes teams in the Del Rio and Eagle Pass area.

Members of the team include Sienna Mirelez, Veronika Jimenez, Natalie Riojas, Marcely Cantu, Aubree Garcia, Anay Garza, Kyndra Love, Nayeli Quintero, Kimberly Vasquez, Lesslie Torres, Krystalynn Alejandro, Madison De La Fuente, and Jacelyn Ortegon.

David Hernandez is the manager of the team, while Joel Barbosa and Carl Mirelez are the coaches.
