Lobos and Coyotes prepare for the start of soccer season


Uvalde High School soccer teams will begin their 2019 season early next month.

Both Keith Pendelton’s Lobos and Javier Sanchez’s Coyotes will begin action on Jan. 3-5.

The Lobos will compete in the Smithson Valley tournament, while the Coyotes will vie in the Edgewood ISD tourney.

Coach Pendleton is the new UHS girls head soccer coach.

For the past few years, Pendleton has been the head soccer coach of the Uvalde Coyotes.

Coach Sanchez is the new UHS boys head soccer coach.

On Jan. 10-12, the Lobos will be in San Antonio to take part in the Edgewood ISD soccer tournament.

District 28-5A competition for the UHS girls will begin at Castroville when they take on Medina Valley Lady Panthers.

The Lobos will make their district home debut on Jan. 22 when they host the Southwest Legacy Titans.

They will go on the road to play the Southwest Dragons on Jan. 25 and then will close out the first month of the season with a home match against the San Antonio Harlan Hawks on Jan. 29.

Their long district schedule will run through March 19 when the UHS girls wind up play with road action against the Southside Cardinals.

Prior to the start of district competition, Sanchez’s Coyotes will play in the North East ISD tournament on Jan. 10-12.

The Coyotes will play the Fredericksburg Battlin’ Billies on Jan. 15 at Fredericksburg.

District 28-5A competition for the Coyotes will begin on Jan. 18 when the Uvaldeans host the Medina Valley Panthers.

Kick-off time for the Uvalde-MV varsity match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
