Lobos finish their basketball season Tuesday at Floresville


The Uvalde Lobos will complete their 2017-18 basketball season Tuesday night when they travel to Floresville for a District 29-5A rematch against the Floresville Jaguars.

Tip-off time for the varsity game is set for 6:30 p.m., while the two sub-varsity games will get underway at 5 p.m.

Last month, the Lobos knocked off the Jaguars, 58-54, in the first district meeting of the season.

The Lobos outscored the Jaguars, 23-6, in the final period to post a huge come-from-behind victory.

Alyssa Rodriguez downed three three-point field goals and scored 13 of Uvalde’s points in the final period to spark the Lobos to their win.

Rodriguez wound up with a total of 28 points.

Others scoring for Uvalde were Deandra Vera with 10 points, Kylie Sendejo with nine points, Zaneta Salazar with seven points, and Shyann Dockal and Katelyn Willemin each with two points.

Angel Rosas and Maddy Clark topped the scoring for Floresville with 14 points and 10 points.

Coach Gisel Mireles’ Lobos, 1-7 in district action and 5-26 for the season overall, will come into their season final following a Friday night game against the San Antonio Harlandale Indians in Uvalde High School’s Harvey Kinchlow Gym.

Results from the Uvalde-Harlandale game will be reported in next Thursday’s Uvalde Leader-News.

Prior to the Harlandale game, the Lobos lost a 62-43 verdict against the district-leading Southside Lady Cardinals last Tuesday night at Southside.

Alyssa Rodriguez and Deandra Vera were the scoring leaders for the Lobos with 18 points and 13 points, respectively.

Others who contributed to the UHS scoring total were Zaneta Salazar with five points, Kylie Sendejo with four points, Kaitlyn Willemin with two points, and Shyann Dockal with one point.

Allie Herrera scored 16 points to lead the individual scoring for Southside.

Coach Terri Pfluger’s Jaguars, 2-6 in district and 10-21 for the season, lost a 53-39 road verdict to the Harlandale Indians last Tuesday night.

Angel Rosas and Maddy Clark led the scoring for Floresville in that game with 15 points and 13 points, in that order.

Three players scored in double figures for the Indians, including Serena Rodriguez with 13 points, and Nisa Delgado and Fawzieh Saleh, each with 11 points.

Friday, the Jaguars were scheduled to take on the McCollum girls at San Antonio.
