Lobos host Eagle Pass in basketball competition tomorrow


Tomorrow night in Uvalde High School’s Harvey Kinchlow Gym, the Uvalde Lobos will host the Eagle Pass Lady Eagles in basketball action.

The varsity game is set for a 4:30 p.m. tipoff.

Under the original schedule, the ball game was set for a 6 p.m. start, but the starting time was moved up by 90 minutes.

There will be only a varsity game tomorrow as both the UHS junior varsity team and freshman team will be involved in tournament competition at Pleasanton.

Coach Gisel Mireles’ young Lobos varsity are off to a 0-2 start.

The Lobos lost a 56-26 decision against the Del Rio Queens in the season home opener for the Uvalde girls Tuesday night in Kinchlow Gym.

Details from the game and individual scoring information was not available at press time.

In their season opener played last Friday at Pearsall, the Lobos suffered a 52-22 loss against the Pearsall girls.

Up 29-13 at the end of the first half, the Lady Mavericks poured it on in the second half as they outscored the Lobos, 23-9, on the way to their 30-point victory.

Scoring for the Lobos were A’Taisha Carroll with five points, Jasmine Lewallen with four points, Lenisa Tomasini and Gissell Martinez each with three points, Shyann Dockal, Aliyah Carrizalez, and Cielo De Luna each with two points, and Tina Guedea with one point.

Two players scored 11 points each to lead Pearsall’s scoring.

On Nov. 13, the Lobos will host the Hondo Owls in action featuring varsity, junior varsity and freshman games.

The Lobos varsity will compete in the Floresville tournament set for Nov. 15-17 and in the Hondo tournament scheduled for Nov. 29-Dec. 1.

District 28-5A basketball competition for the Lobos will begin on Dec. 4 when the Uvaldeans play the Southside Lady Cardinals at Southside.
