Lobos play district home opener Friday


Following over a month of road action, the Uvalde Lobos will be back in the friendly confines of Uvalde High School’s Harvey Kinchlow Gym for volleyball action next Friday.

The Lobos will make their District 29-5A home debut as they host the Eagle Pass Winn Lady Mavericks.

Coach Russell McElroy’s Lobos, 8-14 for the season, will enter play against the Winn girls following district road action against the San Antonio McCollum Cowboys Friday night and a road match against the Harlandale Indians set for Tuesday night.

The Lobos entered their district opener against McCollum Friday night coming off three consecutive non-district wins, including a 25-19, 25-18, 17-25, 13-25, and 15-13 victory over the Crystal City Javelinas last Tuesday at Crystal City.

Prior to the Crystal City match, the Lobos downed the Carrizo Springs Wildcats and the Pearsall Lady Mavericks, 25-10, 19-25, 25-17, and 26-24.

The Lobos will celebrate Dig Pink Night as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Oct. 10 when they host the San Antonio McCollum Cowboys in District 29-5A volleyball competition.

Prior to the start of the varsity volleyball contest in Uvalde High School’s Harvey Kinchlow Gym, there will be a special ceremony to commemorate the celebration of life.

Commemorative Dig Pink T-shirts are being sold for $15 each.

Proceeds from the T-shirt sales will benefit the Kate Marmion Regional Cancer Center here in Uvalde.

In Uvalde’s recent win over Pearsall, Kayla Curtis racked up 16 kills to spearhead the Lobos offensive attack. She also made three defensive blocks.

Zaneta Salazar posted nine kills, while Kylie Sendejo and Morgan Kenney each totaled six kills.

Makayla Perez made 21 assists and Nadia Gonzales rolled up 15 assists.

Cassandra Silva made a total of 23 digs.

Jessica Guzman had 16 digs, Deandra Vera posted 13 digs, while Michaela Contreras contributed 10 digs.

Zaneta Salazar blocked two shots, while Katelin Sena and Morgan Kenney each made one block.

Stats leaders for the Lobos at the service line were Katelin Sena, Kayla Curtis and Kylie Sendejo, who served up three aces each.

Morgan Kenney served up two aces.

The Lobos will celebrate Parents’ Night on Oct. 3 when they host the Floresville Jaguars.
