On March 12 at the Uvalde High School soccer field, the Uvalde Lobos will play their final home match of the season.

They will host the Pearsall Lady Mavericks in a match set for 7 p.m.

Coach Keith Pendleton’s Lobos, 7-1-1 in district and 11-7-3 for the season overall, will celebrate UHS Seniors Night as senior members of the team will be honored during special ceremonies. Andrea Perez, Nixon Havelka, Ahlaynah Barrientos, Fiona White, Nataly Villa, and Diana Moncivais will be playing their final home match.

“These girls have all played a key role in our success this season,” said Coach Pendleton. “We are proud of their senior leadership.”

Tuesday’s game will  be the second district match of the season between the Lobos and the Lady Mavericks.

On Feb. 16, the Lobos downed the Pearsall girls, 11-0, in the first meeting.

“This is the second year for Pearsall’s soccer program,” said Pendleton. “They have a young team, but they are well-coached and have shown improvement all season.”

One week from Tuesday, the Lobos will wrap up their regular-season slate with a district road match against the Floresville Jaguars. That match is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

On Feb 20, the Lobos beat the Jaguars, 4-0, in district action in Uvalde.

Coach Pendleton’s Lobos will go into the Pearsall match following a March 8 road match against the Hondo Owls.

On March 5, the Lobos blanked the Somerset Lady Bulldogs, 3-0, in district action at Somerset.

Abby Hernandez, Faith Baker, and Ahlaynah Barrientos each scored one Uvalde goal.

Hernandez received an assist from Andrea Perez.

Before the Somerset match, the Lobos lost a 2-1 decision against the Pleasanton Lady Eagles.

The Lobos got on the scoreboard first when Jaelynn Rivera scored on a short-range shot with 4:59 left in the first half.

Pleasanton scored the match-tying goal with 38:55 to go in the second half.

They scored what proved to be the match-winning goal with 23:19 remaining in the contest.

The Uvaldeans had several shots on goal later in the half, but they were unable to connect as the Lady Eagles held on to win the match.
