Lobos play three soccer matches on the road

The Uvalde Lobos celebrate the 100th career soccer coaching victory with Uvalde High School head soccer coach Keith Pendleton. The celebration followed the District 28-4A win by the Uvalde Lobos, 6-0, over the Poteet Aggies on Feb. 23 at the Uvalde High School soccer field.

Three of the last four District 28-4A soccer matches for the Uvalde Lobos will be on the road this week at Somerset and Hondo.

On March 5, the Lobos will journey to Somerset to face the Lady Bulldogs in a 5 p.m. district rematch.

On Feb. 9, the Lobos downed the Somerset girls, 2-0, in match played at the Uvalde High School soccer field.

The Lobos scored one goal in each half.

Nixon Havelka scored for the Lobos on a shot from 40 yards out.

The other Uvalde goal came on a shot by Nataly Villa, who received an assist from Isis Chapa.

Following the Somerset match Tuesday, the Lobos will be back on the road Friday for action against the Hondo Owls. Kick-off time is set for 5 p.m.

In the first district meeting, the Lobos beat the Owls in a 4-0 shutout.

Faith Baker scored off an assist from Andrea Perez, while Ahlaynah Barrientos scored with an assist from Nixon Havelka.

In the second half, Barrientos scored an unassisted goal and Diana Moncivias scored off of an assist from Isis Chapa.

Coach Keith Pendleton’s Lobos, 6-0-1 in district and 10-6-3 for the season, will enter play this week coming off of a March 1 match against the Pleasanton Eagles.

Going into action, the Eagles, with 20 district points, held a one-point lead over both the Lobos and the Floresville Jaguars, both with 19 points, in the battle for first place.

The Uvalde girls had an open date on Feb. 27.

Prior to that, the Lobos beat the Poteet Aggies, 6-0, at the Uvalde High School soccer field on Feb. 23.

With the win, Coach Pendleton celebrated his 100th career soccer coaching victory.

The Uvaldeans broke a scoreless tie with 24:55 left in the first half as Andrea Perez scored on a shot from 22 yards out off of an assist from Nataly Villa.

Less than a minute later, the Uvaldeans upped the scoring lead to 2-0 when Isis Chapa hit on a long shot. She received an assist from Andrea Perez.

Two minutes later, Hailey Pargas dribbled the ball in close and slipped a short shot across the line for a goal.

Delilah De La Cruz put the Lobos up, 4-0, as she scored on a shot from 25 yards out.

The Lobos added a couple of goals in the second half.

Ahlaynah Barrientos scored on a long shot that went just over the reach of the goal keeper and into the net for a goal.

Barrientos scored the final goal with 6:23 left in the match with a shot from 20 yards out.

Defensively, the back line of Victoria Martinez, Delilah De La Cruz, and Fiona White had another great night, along with goal keeper Madelynn Silva.

Next home action for the Lobos is scheduled for March 12 when the Lobos will host the Pearsall Lady Mavericks on UHS Seniors Nights.

The Lobos will play at Floresville on March 19.
