Lobos scrimmage at Eagle Pass tomorrow


The Uvalde Lobos will seek their first volleyball competition of the season tomorrow when they travel to Eagle Pass to face the Winn Lady Mavericks in scrimmage action.

They will face the Carrizo Springs Lady Wildcats in scrimmage action set to begin at 9 a.m.

The Lobos will scrimmage the Eagle Pass Lady Eagles at 9:50 a.m. and then battle the Winn Lady Mavericks at 10:40 a.m.

Following a break, they will wind up the scrimmage with action against the Crystal City Lady Javelinas at 12:20 p.m.

UHS’s junior varsity and freshman team will participate in Winn scrimmage competition.

The junior varsity will scrimmage Winn at 9:40 a.m., while the first scrimmage action for the freshmen will be against Eagle Pass High at 10:20 a.m.

Following Winn scrimmage tomorrow, the Lobos will host a scrimmage Saturday in Uvalde High School’s Harvey Kinchlow Gym.

That scrimmage will include D’Hanis, Eagle Pass High, and Fredericksburg.

The Lobos will first play the Fredericksburg Lady Billies at 9 a.m.

They will take on Eagle Pass at 10:40, and top off the scrimmage with action against the D’Hanis Cowgirls at 12:20 p.m.

UHS’s junior varsity and freshmen will play the same opponents at the same time as the varsity schedule.

Volleyball practice for new UHS head coach Debbie Martinez and her Lobos began Monday in Harvey Kinchlow Gym.

“We got off to a bit of a rough start Monday, but we are trying to make some changes. I am doing some drills that the girls are not used to doing,” said Martinez. “We have some new girls and some who have been in our program. Everyone is working hard to secure a position. I see a ton of passion out there as the girls are working hard with each practice.”

Next Tuesday night, the Lobos will begin their regular season when they host the Lytle Pirates in Kinchlow Gym.

Varsity action is set to start at 6 p.m. and will be preceded by a 5 p.m. junior varsity match.

One week from tomorrow and Saturday, the Lobos will participate in the Wimberley volleyball tournament.

On Aug. 20-21, the UHS varsity girls will vie in the Floresville tournament.

The Lobos will host the Somerset Lady Bulldogs on Aug. 24.
